markbivvy
if the outcome of that procedure leaves a situation which still poses an unacceptable risk to the community, will use new powers, which the Bill will contain, to ban outright any type of firearm. Fat Dog
I think the Irish government could leave themselves open to a challenge in Europe if they allow no new licenses but allow renewals to existing licenses even with more strict conditions. markbivvy
As far as I know about European law, individual countries get to decide their own firearms laws and can't be guided by Europe on the matter. your not wrong again mate. lurcherboy
Oh yes, they do indeed, and the opposition here are no better in this regard. It is as usual a complete knee jerk, emphasis on the jerk(s), reaction to criminal activity. They don't have the balls to take on the criminals so they take out the law abiding peoples sport. What really makes me sick, and I mean to the deepest pit of my stomach, is they're actually negotiating with the criminal gangs in the prisons?!?!?!?!!? Can you ******* believe that, we get bad legislation shoved down our necks and the criminal murderers get to "negotiate". This country is an embarrassment to me. A TD looking for extra votes john I was over the water a week or so ago to see the old man and while I waited for a boat on the way back that could handle the rough sea's, I brought up the subject of firearms. Everyone I spoke to told me that any possible (future) ban would result in that areas TD being voted out. They were absolutely 100% on this LB

Bleeh
''My concern is that unless strong and decisive action is taken the number of handguns could grow exponentially and our firearms regime would equate to that of countries such as the United States. Today we have 1800 legal handguns'' From Wikipedia ''In 1995, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms estimated that the number of firearms available in the US was 223,000,000'' Huh. You hear that lads? I think we've got some shopping to do. Edited November 20, 2008 by Bleeh
