Quite frankly rabbit numbers are so low in my part of Wales that i think i can say with total honesty they are not a pest. Mixy appears every autumn without fail.

Sad that NE though have without a doubt pandered to public opinion, could we see a sudden increase in the incidence of mixy on NE reserves?

Cheers

I posted on another forum that the scum at Natural England have this week responded to me regarding a complaint about a major rabbit problem. A client has a field bordered on three sides by dual carriageway, and with a public footpath on the open side. Shooting, gassing, Rodenating and ferretting have all been ineffective. The rabbits stripped every square inch of foliage up to a height of 18" on a 33-acre field and surrounding hedges.

NE is no longer accepting complaints about rabbit damage, unless the damage is on a national scale. NE has also taken the unilateral decision to ignore the Pest Act 1954, which it states is outdated and unsupportable. Basically another instance of jobsworth soap-dodgers stabbing the rural community in the back. And hilarious with all the clamour about food shortages.

Just more evidence of how far removed those jobsworths in positions of authority are from reality. I've said for years that we need to be ever careful as the anti brigade weedle their way into jobs within areas where they can have an effect on rural life and field sports in general. It's not an outright ban on shooting we should fear it's all the little obstacles we face. Maybe someone will take a (BIG) truckload of dead rabbits and dump them on NEs doorstep
