Cosd
Anyone know where to buy flock so I can flock some woodie shells? I have seen some kits for about £18 that will do 10-12 shells, but I have also seen on an American site where you can buy 1lb of flock for about £13 which would do a whole lot more. I haven't done this before so any tips and advice welcome.
charliebrown
Isnt it just a coarse sawdust? Why not try using sand, and then giving it a spray paint finish
Highlander
Why flock, what's wrong with good ol' household paint mixed in with some coarse powder or other to keep it matt? Depending upon usage flock will come off especially the DIY kind.
Cosd
Sounds like a good idea! I have a few old full body decoys which I could practice on. Maybe some grey matt paint mixed with a decent amount of sand.....
Highlander
Don't use sand...it won't stay put, cuts your hands and doesn't hold paint well. Use a powder mixed in with the paint.

OK, any ideas on type of powder? I expect talcom powder is too fine
Windknot
I've heard that Polyfilla works well to matte the paint. Haven't tried it myself.

Dunkield
It may crack but has anyone tried masonary paint? That will give the texture you want you just need the right colours.
Greenhunter
Plastic decoys can be wire-brushed if you use a disc shaped one on your electric drill( the sort that looks like a chimney sweeps brush) This will give a non-shine surface when used with household emulsions. easy to get colours and I usually buy test pot sizes, its cheaper! If you work round the eyes carefully you don't have to re-paint that bit! This is how Chris Green does his, check out his first dvd 'Pigeon Shooting, the whole story vol 1 (no, I'm not on commission! more's the pity)
steve_b_wales
There is a firm that sells flocking kits. I have used them a few times. Easy to use as well. PM me for the address.
