Lloyd90
Now I very much like the Benelli Shotguns and as soon as I scrap the dosh together will definately be going to purchase one. They have them in my local RFD Now anyways I was wondering what you guys think would be better. Would it be a better idea to get the M2 Field, to use out in the field and use on clays OR would it be better to get the supersport to use on both clays and out in the field. Dont do a massive deal of shooting rough or clays atm but hopefully be doing more of both come the new year Just wondering what you guys would do, considering you have more experience. http://www.benelliusa.com/firearms/superSport.tpl Heres a link to the site appreciate some info n opinions
Ozzy Fudd
i love benellis, i have a benelli montefeltro 12 bore. i use it mostly for hunting tho, ill just warn you that it doesnt cycle light loads so well for clays (28 gram 7.5s); maybe all montefeltros are like that or maybe its just my gun, but its something to keep in mind
chop
Ive got a m2 field comfortec in synthetic 26". You wont find a better gun. Mine will cycle any combination of cartidges from 28g to 50g. Well balanced, durable, shoots anything from clays to geese and everything inbetween. the comfortec system does make a difference on those big days in the field, as I would assume it would down at the clay ground. No sore sholders with this gun, even shooting 3" all day! its all a matter of preference and what you are going to use it for as they are both the same guns underneath. If you want a practical gun that will take everything you throw at it and still shoot well. Get the m2!
Andy W
I have a M2 comfortec in 28" and mine works fine on 21, 24 & 28 gm loads, the M2's are equally at home on the clay ground or out in the field.
Baldrick
An M2 every time. Much more versatile. Mine cycles everything. But I can't hit a damned thing with it.
Breastman
I have an M2 and once i'd broken it in (About 300 cartridges) it will chew through anything. I've used everything from 21g-40g birdshot, AAA-SG buckshot plus slug and it cycles them all without fault. And has previously been said you can barely feel that you've been using a shotgun even at the end of a full days shooting! Lloyd90
Thanks guys Looks like an M2 is the way to go. Just wondering whats the finish on the M2 barrel ? I have seen n touched it and its not the same as on the other models, its sort of like a rough texture. I assume this helps protect the barrel, just wondering what finish it is and why they use it ? Stamford
Mmmmm, got me thinking about an upgrade now Wonder if I can sneak that on my Christmas list ?? What do they retail at ?
Breastman
It's a simple matt finish just so theres less 'care' required to keep it looking good (as opposed to a gloss finish that you'd find on the majority of O/U's). Remember these are designed to be 'working' guns and are based on shotguns for the military so you wouldn't want a finish that you have to oil everytime its touched to keep it looking good. It also means all but the deepest scratches can be removed by a quick wipe over with an oily cloth. BTW the only criticism i have of the M2 is the bead. It is a fibre optic type rather than a white ball, but it is tiny! Its a personal preference but i prefer either the white ball beads or a large fibre optic. I've just retro fitted mine with an aftermarket 100mm fibre optic which has greatly improved my clays. I got mine (An FAC version - but without the mag extension for clay grounds) from Weldon Gun Room for £915 and with £50 worth of freebies thrown in. (Compliments about the shop/staff/service never go amiss ) Mark Edited December 3, 2008 by Breastman

Also where did you get the New bead for the sight and how easy was it to set ? Cheers mate I THINK they are retailing by me @ £970 Might have to go on next years christmas list haha! Breastman
Yeah, just the same as a gloss barrel but you don't have to be as exacting. I got my bead from my shooting ground but its just one of those Easyhit beads which you can get of the interweb. £30, not cheap but what is these days! Was easy enough to set, just lined it up behind the existing bead, as its so long you can do it by sight. Mark
Andy W
I am glad it isnt just me with the bead, mine had a tiny red bead and a big red easy hit thing, I took them off and fitted a white front bead I purchased off ebay a good while ago, took minutes to remove old and fit new, use a bit of loctite though just in case. I also like a white dot on the start of the rib just before it rises as this cures my "eye drawn to the left side of the barrel" scenario. A couple of pics. pair away
Andy is it me or ( in the second pic )or does it look like your barrel is ( bent ) pointing slightly to the right ?? hope this does not affect your scores today !!!! Andy W
Thanks for that Tim, I have checked my barrel and it is fine, there is a very slight swage to accomodate the choke and not just to the right, equally the same amount to the left as well and it did not affect my shooting today did it mate.
