petersclan
hi, just out of pure interest, how many shotguns can you own on standard licence as long as all in cabinets and for personal pleasure? cheers
Ferret Master
As many as you want I think providing house security is up to scratch. I believe some forces stipulate a house alarm if you have more than 12 guns? Anyone else enlighten us on this? FM
petersclan
that sounds sensible and about right cheers
Baldrick
36 shotguns was tacitly advised as the maximum when I checked with Norfolk and Essex Police, but the FEOs got pretty agitated when I neared that figure. Monitored alarms, guard dogs and strong rooms start to become necessary when you get into double figures, as does a special-reserve insurance policy. GJUK
as does a special-reserve insurance policy. Required by your mortgage lender or by the police, out of interest. Thanks, J

Baldrick
GJUK, there was no mortgage on the property, and the Police weren't interested in the insurance aspects. Ultimately it was more peace of mind for me, than a stipulation. My SR policy was strongly recommended by the existing insurer (NFU Mutual). Special-reserve policies are common practice for gun, art and jewellery collections of significant value. It's the only means of getting reimbursed the true value of the collection in the event of loss or damage. The SR policy dictated that every gun was valued by an expert and itemised on the policy. wabbitbosher
Can one have too many guns? Nope , Nope and Nope if you; like some of us enjoy renovating old guns as a Hobby, then why should there be a limit ? This is Great Britain a "Free Country" WB
clayman
I went from 12 to 36 to 50. Only requirement was sufficient cabinet space appropriately sited and fixed. All now in 4 large cabinets. Security is the only legal consideration, if you have a SGC, theoretically the limit is only the limit of your storage as there is no requirement in law to have any purpose for owning a section 2 gun. If you want to build a gun room and collect 100 shotties, there is nothing in SGC law to stop you.

LeeinVA
Hello gents, I too think that you can never have enough guns, though you can only shoot one at a time.. Years ago i had a look at my collection and decided to liquidate some of those guns.. My best guess would be that i had at one time over 62? 63 guns.. Purchasing fairly easy in the US, as long as you are legal to do so.. Now that i am older, and the kids gone, i can affort to buy some of the finer weapons out there.. No one can never have enough.. It is no different then my wife collecting designer handbags, or your mum buying hummels.. I had my first Marlin .22 at 7 and have not stopped shooting since
