Beardo
was chatting with my dad about this (he writes for The Lobster), but i reckon it was just bolt failure - one blade sheared off and hit the other on the way down

Badgerpig
I think it was either: ice, lightning,mini-earthquake, metal fatigue/bolt failure causing one fin to fall off and hit the other one on the way down causing damage or Shergar forgot to charge the intergalactic sat nav causing Lord Lucan, Dracula and Elvis (who had one over the eight) to crash their spaceship into the turbine, as they had neither MOT or insurance they inevitably left the scene at haste returning warp factor 7 to Atlantis before the Yeti Police arrived on their Unicorns to examine the scene with telepathic astral projectors and fairy dust Edited January 9, 2009 by Badgerpig
Highlander
Yeah right...aliens from outta space with the gear to get here in one piece (quickly and incognito) have a strange interest in outmoded propeller blade technology

Gordon R
Only report I heard was that they haven't found the blade. Bit big to lose. As for an aircraft hitting it - I don't think there is a plane which could survive that impact. Also very low for a plane. Beardo
as i thought! the whole missing blade was a load of cobblers - yeah it was missing from the turbine, but it was lying on the ground at the foot of it! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7817858.stm
