mark_mjs93
found a snare in a bush in a local wood, when i saw 2 fellas messing around in the bush alarm bells rang when they left i went for a nosey and found a snare, went home to put the dog in and went back i was gone for 5 mins, when i got back to were i saw the snare it was gone... not sure what to do any ideas??? i know how much dogs like to sniff around in bushes and i dont want to see a poor dog go into a bush for a sniiff then getting a snare round their throat... happy shooting Mark EDIT; i edited to shorten it lol its annoying having to read a wacking great block of writing... al4x
are you sure the woods are public access? also were the snares for foxes for instance near a pheasant release pen or smaller for rabbits
mark_mjs93
im sure its public access there are no gates to it and there are no signs saying private, and i have seen only a few pheasants near by but i dont know of any release pens, but it seemed a bit small for a fox, as i say i dont know snares so i couldnt really say, i walk down there every day when i walk the dog so i plan to look around and if i see them again im going to ask them what they are up to, it could be that they are totally in the clear but im not sure, i know a fella that works for environment agency so ill ask him about it aswell, to be honest i dont like to get involved with the police or anything, but im really not sure they could have by all means have permission to do so but my main concern was for the saftey of dogs and pets that are walked through the place, or even kids that walk down there to climb trees or mess around, dont want them geting feet caught in them, although i do get very paranoid sometimes so it could be by all means nothing to worry about but still... henry d
Was the snare brass wire or steel ? How high/wide was the loop and was there any brush wood etc. near to funnel animals toward it or even anything like goalposts front and back of the snare ? Ferret Master
Sounds like they didn't leave and once they knew they were spotted lifted the wire and were on their way. What was the snare tethered/pegged to? Who owns the woods? EDIT: Why bother running straight to the police before you even know who owns the woods? What are the police going to do if the wire isn't even there? Interfering with a legally set snare or trap is an offence. What was the snare tethered/pegged to? Who owns the woods? FM it was tethered to a thick stick which had been pushed into the ground, (a peg) and it isnt owned by anyone it is a public wood, to be honest i call it a wood but it isnt even a wood to be honest its like a path down the centre and loads of trees, but i wouldnt consider it a wood, but at a loss of words for it i call it a wood, lol... if it was a legally set trap surely the fellas would have warned me of said trap, and if it is legal then why did they up it and leave... mark_mjs93
just phoned a farmer i know that owns land that backs onto the woods, he says he owns the woods but doesnt let people hunt or snare in there, he said he likes to leave it open to dog walkers and the public (fair play), but he gave permission for the fellas to set up the snares on his land but didnt explain to them that he didnt want them setting up snares or traps in the woods, so yes me ing the paranoid me, admits defeat, i jumped to conclussion and didnt ask the right questions, but whilst on the subject, what do i do if i see an illegal snare in say a park, and how do i recognise an illegal snare??? thanks for the help though people

You admit don't know much about them or that they may have been laid with permission. Tell who ever owns the land what you have seen and give it a wide berth after that. IMO.
