voyager
Does anybody on this forum use a pump action on a clay site? I would like to get one because they are cheaper (and i prefer them to o/u`s)and use it at my local site. I would n`t want to waste my money by not be able to use it there or any where else for that matter Pump actions are for robbing banks as far as im concerned, buy a gun for purpose and not for clint eastwood films

MC
I always thought that the prefered weapon of your average villain was a sawn off side by side. Nowt wrong with a pump action, unless your a snob

Has someone beaten you with one and now you're P***ed off? I don't own one, but when I was shooting JCBruno's Browning BPS in Canada I found it to be a very nice gun. Quite safe too, if you don't pump it there's no second shot ready to go, just a fired case in the chamber. I'm planning to get one because I found them fun-isn't that what shooting is about, having fun?
pennywise
oh oh, the green shade brigade! what if you can`t afford to spend £4000 on a gun, and want to enjoy the sport without that type of negative attitude that some not all people seem to stick to? For some, shooting is being "seen" with the tweed and the over-priced gun Pumps are cheap (not everybody can stretch to a Kreighoff), disgustingly reliable and, as has already been said, loads of fun. If you are still capable of having fun, if you don't give a toss what Lord Headley-Smedley-Smythe thinks of you, and your're not wadded, get a pump and enjoy it. To be honest, I can't imagine for a minute that it'll be the only gun you ever buy. In no time at all, you'll probably want to start collecting them  and you can get an O/U then, if you feel the need. You do need an O/U if you intend to become anal about clay shooting, but until then just enjoy it.

Peter De La Mare
Judging by this thead it seems that the only choices for a clay gun are a £50 pump action or a Kreighoff! I tried a pump action and found it utterly pointless. I couldn't quite grasp what was fun about it. What's wrong with an auto or an O/U (they can be bought for very little you know) for clays? Each to their own an' all that.
MC
Peter, I am afraid you need a sense of humour bypass if that "KER CHUNK" noise didn't bring a smile to your face. And you could resist the urge to rack it with one hand by shaking it vertically.
njc110381
I have a couple of nice Berettas and a tweed. The Berettas fit me and the tweed is warm and dry. What do you think I'd look like with a tweed and a pump action? That is probably my ideal field shooting combo I don't get this snobbery thing. I'd turn up to a Pheasant shoot with a pump gun if I didn't think I'd get kicked out. A gun is a gun, why does the action type create so much fuss? There's only one thing that I can't resist shaking vertically with one hand, and it ain't a shotgun.
throdgrain
I always thought that the prefered weapon of your average villain was a sawn off side by side. Nowt wrong with a pump action, unless your a snob Well said. We all know snobbery is rife in shooting, but its a shame when they try to use safety as a stick to beat you with as well. A bloke said that to me on sunday, I didnt even know him. Sometimes I wish I lived in the states, if they value people there by what you do, not by what you got. Ozzy Fudd
i dare anyone to rack the slide on a pump and not get that tingly feeling down your back and start laughing like beavis and butt head

I would n`t want to waste my money by not be able to use it there or any where else for that matter Bought a Winchester1200 some weeks ago for the shear hell of it. Its 20g with ½ choke. I’ve put 4 boxes through it so far and am up to 21 skeet. It’s just so much fun and it just vaporizes the clays. When I switch back to my Beretta it feels like I’ve got all the time in the world for the pairs. So of course, I miss them. Everyone should have one to keep a smile on there face.
