utectok
hey everyone is different but for me it's 1/4 & 1/2 choke 30 gm 6s on decoys and 32-34gm 5s for roost to get through the twigs and poke at those long birds on calm days roosting high. SteveT
7's are ok for pigeons of the clay variety!
sirnovember
Full and full, 6's or 7's.
pegasus bridge
decoying - #6 shot, with 1/4 choke in my semi auto- this throws good patterns at the sort of ranges you will be shooting at.
Shooting Tom
I use Eley pigeons 6.5' for decoying pigeons, Top barrel 3/4 choke, Bottom barrel 1/4. Welcome to PW. Edited February 5, 2009 by Shooting Tom
Whitebridges
A warm welcome hambone. I wouldn't get too hung up about different sizes for decoying or roost shooting. Presumably you use a 12 bore? An ounce (28g) of No 6 or 7 will do the job perfectly out to a maximum for 40 yards. Eley make a cartridge designed for pigeon shooting which is No 6.5 loaded in 30g and 32g, which seems a good compromise and several of the posters on here would recommend them. Some shooters like No 5's but I would say they are in the minority. All the top manufacturers shells will work fine on pigeons if you keep to the specifications above. The key thing is to get within a comfortable range (about 30 yards) and you should get consistent clean kills.
