LeeinVA
Many people were worried what might become of gun ownership when our boy Obama came into power? I am sure we might lose a few battles, but we are up three.. This past summer the Supreme court voted and had determined that it was unlawful for any state government, or local government to deny the rights of gun ownership? Hence, the fine people in DC can once more own handguns That is one place where people need to protect themsleves.. Today the Virginia Government now made it legal to carry concealed into a place that serves spirits.. The law once said that you had to open carry into a pub.. BUT!! You still cannot consume alcohol if under arms, and they closed a loop hole amending longer back ground checks at gun shows.. Do not missunderstand me.. I am a legal Americal and am all for back ground checks, but the good bit is we did not lose any ground

Guest
Yeah I saw that the right of owners in DC had been regranted. Do you think that in the UK they will reintroduce a legal ownership for handguns? I can only hope so.

I would be curious to know what percent crime has risen since they banned the handguns.. The news here tells me that only 100 people died in the UK last year from gun violence? The anti gun lobby would go nuts.
Guest
Maybe they need to rephrase the law much like they managed to get slavery banned in 1807 by not allowing ships to fly international flags but had to fly flags of their countries. Seemed like a trivial law but virtually banned the slave trade overnight, maybe a similar law such as: People are now allowed to own weapons with length under 30 cm. It would not say anywhere "handgun" in the legislation, but the law would imply when challenhed that handguns are totally legal.

al4x
I can see this as one reason I reckon i'm happier not visiting the good ole USA. The idea of having a gun for protection in a pub is just scary. I like not having as many rights and knowing a shootout is unlikely in the local

Us here in Britain just don't care about our rights and we have forgotten hat they are supposed to be.
LeeinVA
Even you Gents here in the UK have heard of our Benjamin Franklin.. He was a fairly intelligent bloke.. He said so many years ago.. A country that is so willing to give up their rights for the protection of the Government is a country that is sure to fail.. I believe this
realtreedave
theres rights and theres rights .yes i do believe in our right to bear arms, but idont believe in our right to have full auto for hunting purposes[why],and i dont believe in our right to carry in a public place for protection[thats what a police force is supposedly for].belief, fact and trust are very different things no matter which side of the atlantic

I carry because i can it is my right to do so.. I had a great debate about this a few weeks ago.. The US is a great big place.. And not enough cops to protect everyone.. You would thank god that i was around when some thug may be roughing up you or your misses.. The world is not hearts and flowers and people will kill you just because you are there.. It is a sad fact too.. But mostly carried because of the damn snakes
