Mucker
I've just joined Pigeon Watch, so Hi to everyone... And believe it or not, i've just been given shooting rights to 1000 acres (seriously) by a local farmer. (Very nice chap). He's got rape seed and beans growing at the minute, and wheat and barley will be starting soon. Went up last weekend for a recce and it took me 2.5 hours to walk round the perimeter of the farm!!! Got 2 rabbits and found the pigeons roosting trees along the way... Just ordered some "Clearview" netting and got myself a new rotary. A friend has repainted his old pigeon decoys, so it should all be good fun from now on!!! I shoot a Beretta 687 Silver Pigeon III and a Winchester XTR 101 Lightweight Game gun. Was looking at getting a semi auto for the pigeons, but man, there's a hell of a lot to choose from? Any suggestions guys? Anyway, here's to a good year rough game shooting, and good luck to you all....

Mucker
Hey there again... Sorry to disappoint you there, but i'm actually a northerner that lives in Felixstowe. My wife is from there originally and wanted to move back, so Ta Dar... Here i am. I've borrowed my mates Beretta Extrema 2 a few times and really like that. I've also shot a Benelli M2, which was probably a little bit nicer... But have you seen the price of both of them!!! Like i said, i'm a northener and have bought cars for less than those guns cost. What about a Webly & Scott... They are less than £400 brand new and that appeals to me.

Dave-G
Welcome Mucker - you must have been on a mission and have (seriously) long legs to walk a 1000 acre perimeter in just two and a half hours mate. Just to clear up a matter in your own interests, you need to check if those shooting rights are "rights" - or a simple permission to shoot game and or vermin there. Mucker
Alright, ya got me on the time taken to walk.... We got to the bottom corner of the perimieter in that time, and then my (overweight and chain smoking) friend had had enough and wanted to walk back diagonally back to the car. He was ****** off that i'd left his lighter behind on purpose, LOL. What's the point of a nice walk with a fag in your hand? As for the "rights" thing, not sure what the difference is? Or if i just explained myself wrong... I quite literally walked onto three farms in my camo gear and carrying my gun (in a slip). The first one said he already had lads go and shoot on his farm but suggested that i try the farm that backs onto his land. I asked the old boy the same thing and he said i was welcome back later in the year cos he was going to be doing something with a field or two later in the season. I then walked up to a third farm and the farmer couldn't have been more pleased. He instantly said i could shoot anything apart from game. So that's rabbits, pigeons, corvids, foxes, etc. He wrote me a letter in case i got stopped somewhere on his land, and he told me to leave the "bottom woods" alone as they belonged to someone else. I've since been up to meet his family (who are the farm workers and all over 40) and they took me round in their van to introduce me to the people that live in the farms out buildings. All in all, i can walk, hide, roost shoot or go lamping anywhere i like within his 1000 acres. If that isn't actual shooting rights, then i apologise for the mis-leading statement earlier on. Dave-G
Good for you mucker - you've landed on a right good result there. I'm sure someone else can tell you the difference better than me, but it sounds like you have been given shooting permission. Shooting rights are much more involved - they are usually leased, and 1000 acres would fetch several thousand pounds.

Mucker
I've checked with a guy who knows a game keeper, and you're right... I have only been given permission. "Rights" icludes the breeding of game, the organisation of "paid" shooting days, the counting of all quarry killed and shots fired, etc etc etc. SOD THAT!!! I'm more than happy with the result that i've got. I wasn't expecting to find anywhere to shoot, let alone what i have mamaged to find. It's just getting expensive now. What with new netting, poles. new rotary, repainted decoys, new camo gear, bigger ruck-sack, new seat for the hide, etc etc. And now i'm looking at a semi-auto... My Mrs is NOT happy!!! jammie*dodger
I've just joined Pigeon Watch, so Hi to everyone... And believe it or not, i've just been given shooting rights to 1000 acres (seriously) by a local farmer. (Very nice chap). Nice one. By the way what is the bike in your avatar? I'm in the process if finally taking my test after years of riding on CBTs (3 so far) and i'm thinking of picking up an MT350. The idea being that I might be able to use the Gun carrier that they come with to hold my Shotgun - should be useful for getting round a large permission too. Cheers, JD Edited March 15, 2009 by jammie*dodger
Mucker
The bike in my avatar is my old bike. (Which i built myself). I'm currently rebuilding it into a new one, but the pictures i've got of it are too big to post on my avatar. My new one has got an inverted cantilever springer front end, 2" under stock. Again it's a hardtail, (no suspension), 19" Ape Hangers (Big handlebars), a 1340cc Harley Evolution engine, a 6 speed Ultima gear box attached to a 3.5" Open Primary drive. And when it's finished, it'll have a Johnny Cash (Musical God) themed spray job from front to back.... Oh Yeah baby!!! I've spoken to a seat maker and he's prepared to make me a hard leather gun slip which will attach to one of the front forks on the bike. I've spoken to my local firearms officer about the legality of carrying a shotgun on a motorbike, and in my case, the gun slip would be attached using 4 small buckle straps, so each one of those has to have a suitcase type padlock on it, and the zip that closes the actual gunslip also has to have a separate padlock on it. Thus rendering the gun secure in the event of walking away from the bike. ie, in a petrol station or going in a shop.

This is what I was thinking off; It's an HD too but the company tend not to make too much off it. Cheers, Rob.
Mucker
What's that? An Armstrong?? I've got an old SU carb for one of those in my Aladdins Cave that is my workshop... Can't go wrong with an old HD Armstrong...
jammie*dodger
It's based on the Armstrong. When Nato insisted we all have the same motorbike the Armstrong was chosen. The Us refused to ride something that wasn't made in the USA so Armstrong sold the design to HD who now make the HD MT350 (for some reason the dropped the CC from 500). You can still buy the Armstrong MT500 but the downsides are no Disc Brakes and no electric start. If you look closely you can make out the Harley Davidson name on the tank. Cheers, JD. Mucker
Now you mention the Logo, i can see that it's a HD... Wonder why they dropped it from a 500cc?? Anyway... Less about bikes, and more about pigeons. This new rotary i got has come supplied with foam decoys to be fitted on the actual spinning arms of it. But it also has 3 spikey things (kinda like a crucifix-ish) that look like you can "mount" a real, dead woody on. Except they don't seem to be spaced correctly... Am i just supposed to bend them (which can easily be done) so that they can accomodate the body and wings of a real bird, or do i break the wings on the dead bird and somehow fit it to the spikey things as they are?? Hope that makes sense??
