al4x
My first gun was a model 96 which I believe is very similar action wise but without the engraving. Been a cracking gun had it 16 years and probably shot 30K cartridges through it and it certainly wasn't new when I got it. Was gutted when the forend started to crack as can't find another for love nor money so had to glue it and so far its been ok.

Hardwoods Green
Hi mate, i am a Winchester nut That is one of the earlier 101's from approx 1975-80, looking at the spec you have put i would say its a game gun and will probably have a narrowish rib (6=8mm)with originally just a brass bead as a foresight. Hope this helps
Dirtboy
Thanks Hardwoods. Not at home at the mo so will check the rib but ur spot on about the brass bead only...hurrah...getting somewhere at last. As for 75-1980 I have found a list of serial numbers with ages against them yet my number is lower than any listed there and they go back to the 1960's !!! Have tried a few shots with mates guns of various models yet this one just feels right, dunno what it is but I like the way it mounts, perfect weight and length etc. Really like the old girl so have given it a bit of TLC so must post up some piccies soon. Any tips re these guns?? Edited April 20, 2009 by Dirtboy
Fuji Shooter
I have one of those = I just chopped the stock down to 12" for the lad. The action on his is black (ish) is that silver on yours or just the lighting? I have to say it looks nicer in silver so I may strip that off at the same time as the barrels and stock. Lovely gun though.
Dirtboy
well its blackish silver me thinks !!!! Looks like was factory blacked over silver yet the black seems to be wearing off a touch
Fuji Shooter
OK same finish then - Light black spray over silver. Stripped down the action on ours completely yesterday - looked like brand new inside. We have a gold plating bath in the office so may drop the trigger in to see how it comes out,
Dirtboy
Like to see some piccies if you get round to doing it. Have partially stripped the gun to re do the woodwork (i must post some pics up!) yet not fully, so how difficult was it to do. On the face of it it looks much easier than stripping of my multi shot falcon pcp which was interesting to say the very least.
