Jan147
Did anyone see the breakfast tv this morning at 7.15 ish where they featured the return of the original much desired "Action Man" . (well it was much desired by me but my mum bought me a sindy doll instead, had to go to my cousins and play with his action men i loved it !!) Well is seems after bringing Action Man into the modern world with a snowboard etc they have decided to relaunch the action man as a real man of action - a soldier complete with all the old goodies of real uniforms, guns etc. They interviewed someone from the M O D who said it wasnt a way of encouraging/glamourising the services but a good way for kids to play rather than being on playstations etc. and if they were to join the services they would learn essential skills like teamwork and discipline. Some kids tried them out action man but said they got bored after a bit and went back to the playstations. THEN a lady from the Anti gun loby said that by bringing action man back would encourage kids into guns! Where do they get their thoughts from? Does that mean when I go in the kitchen and play with my kitchen knives - i am liable to then want to go out and stab someone? What a load of ........ Did anyone else see it? so the question is - Did you have a action man as a kid and did this influence you into shooting and being on here? Imperfection
I had loads of Action Man stuff as a kid in the 70's-the scorpion tank,Landrover with trailer, parachutist, mine detector,Eagle eyes etc so is refreshing to hear its comming back as it was. I dont think it influenced me to start shooting cos my dad started that ball rolling and surely i would have joined the army if it had? The anti gun brigade will always try to find some connection between violence and any form of legitemate shooting or in this case-children playing with soldier toys! And as for the Steve Austin toy-how long did your condom style arm last before perishing?!

Lloyd90
**** Austin, who had the terminator toy that you could put a liquid skin on in a mould and it would set hard. You could then peel off bits as you pleased to reveal the robot below Or the robocop toy who's armour came off. Also had loads of the action men stuff, chopper, submarine, dog, loads of cars, dune buggy and who could forget LEGO
markb
My kids have been doing target shooting for at least 5 years now, as part of a competition with the pony club, they run shoot swim and ride not all at the same time, mind you however, the point is they both have their own pistols now, the eldest boy 17 hardly ever picks it up except for a quick practice the night before a comp and the girl 14 practices 2 or 3 times a week but that's it they don't mess around with them, my boy has used the shot gun and he's a better shot than me so I would say if they are introduced to guns and shown that they are not toys but something you can still get enjoyment with, it takes that novelty thing away, they become a tool to do a job, not something to be idolised. Bagsy
Yep, Action Man was my favourite toy as a kid. Had its flaws though - used to throw him out of the top window with the parachute on bit it rarely worked resulting in many busted legs. Scuba gear was good though - if I was to check a certain part of the river Stour in North Essex I'm sure there's still one of my Action men down there in an eel trap wearing the full deep sea diving rig. Probably run out of air now - that was 28 years ago As for influencing me? Never. Grew up, joined the cadets, then the Army and still shooting now

Spaniel
Yep i said to my wife what an idiot...not in those words though.. I had Action man as a kid and use to spend my pocket money on buying all the clothes and guns, even had an electronic firing machine gun post... I brought the same for my eldest son when he was younger and have it all sitting in the loft ready fo the 18 month year old to be ready to play with it
