carld41
hello and welcome, I have found everyone very friendly and helpful on this forum. Could be wrong but a HMR seems a little excessive for magpies

dieseldogg
I am still smarting at 50 from memories of magpies taking the **** outta a 14 year old with a crappy innacurate Winchester .22 with an even crappier trigger. then I discovered Target Rifles ie Anschutz, but the round was limited, as confirmed by outdoor 50 & 100m compititions So HMR seems about right think they are safe at 100 odd metres HA Edited May 20, 2009 by dieseldogg

libs
Yes, quite often living in the country Then you will know that they have very keen eyesight and are off at the slightest hint of danger. So with a .22LR and its lack of range they would be very difficult to control.

dieseldogg
First off, thanks for the warm welcome, Then yes, I would concede if one can nail the ******* straight outta the nest, an air rifle in skilled hands would suffice. I "think" decoying may also work, stuffed/plastic owl?in which case again an air rifle is fine. & actually actually a PCP .177 air rifle is prob more accurate ( out to 40/50???m) than most rimfires (& ducks) & powerful enough for the quarry. I just want the satisfaction of seeing the ******* explode when hit. i got Goldfinches to protect Edited May 21, 2009 by dieseldogg
