Si-Bore
I set up at 2.30 over spring rape and shot until 5.30pm this afternoon. I have watched the field for the last couple of days and with the NE/ENE wind currently blowing the birds were swooping and dipping over the hedge on the W side of the field and dropping straight onto the field. The wind was 15-20mph today and I setup under a larger part of the hedge with the wind in my face. Not ideal but it was exactly on the flightline and would be the best place to ambush them. I setup 2 clusters of birds, 15 in total and a flapper. The centre of the gap was just to my right. The left side I used as a guiding line to bring the birds between me and the decoys on approach to the kill zone. They were passing over the hedge to my left, flying up the hedge line and crossing in front of me into the decoys. The right side cluster of decoys had the flapper on the outside edge, which was probably not needed today as there was plenty of movement. The birds came in just as I had hoped. The shots were quite tricky as they were dipping and lifting as the entered the kill zone leaving me shooting at fresh air on occasion. As a result I started taking the birds earlier as they were on more of a consistent line on further out on their approach. I finished the afternoon with 52 woodies and a feral and took 73 shots. Good sport and looking forward to more.................... Cheers, Si
