Kelbrook Shooting School?

Off to Kelbrook next Wednesday afternoon (24th) - anyone been there before? If so what do you think of the place - as in how highly do you rate the ground, staff, targets etc?

I went once and enjoyed it, but I found the targets easy (so will you), except one :good: . It was a lot easier than Worsley when I went.

Very nice surroundings, plenty of trees :good: , but the stands in some parts of the ground are very close together, so if it's busy, you'll find yourself shooting the targets of the bloke on the stand next to you

Didn't see much of the staff, but the chap that runs it seemed a very nice bloke, he used to be a top shot, can't remember his name now

I bet it gets a bit wild up there if the weather's bad. It was a beautiful day when I went, but I wouldn't like to be up there in a blizzard :)

Kelbrook is one of my favourite grounds.

All of the staff that I have encountered over several years have been brilliant.

I can't agree with Chard about the targets being easier than Worsley, but I shall bow to his experience, as he busts many more clays than I do.

I've shot there in all weathers, and enjoyed.

I can reommend the coffee, its FREE mid week.

You should have no problems with stands mid week.

I'm going on Sunday, its my fathers day treat.

It was probably just the day I went. It's like this last weekend at Southdown, that was easier than their course is normally, apparently :good:

There are a lot of easy targets at Worsley, I agree, but there's enough tough ones to stop you getting a big score

Looks like every ground you visit has heard you going so catered for your shooting ability :good:

I shoot there quite often and enjoy going, shooting midweek will be O.K. but like Chard mentioned at the weekend you do get a lot of clays in the air at once.

You just have to be patient and time your button pressing well.

It is an ideal ground to try a s/hand gun if you feel like buying one and cartridge prices are reasonable.

If you fancy a good meal this http://www.punchbowlearby.co.uk/ is ten minutes away on the road to Skipton.

It can be cold and windy though so take a warm jacket but once you are in the trees it's O.K..

nope. :good::lol:

groung ok.

ill leave it at that. :)

Go on beretta, dish the dirt?! Did Meggison sell you one of those nasty Kemens instead of a proper Perazzi?!

Seriously though, Kellbrook is very well run. The targets vary with the time of the year. Softer in the winter months to cater for game shots and harder through the summer for competition practise. Yeah it can be cold if its windy up there but thats not their fault. All i would say is that the rabbit stands and the lake area could do with a good tidy up as the place is knee deep with blaze clays and placcy wads.

The shop is very well stocked but i take alot of what the staff say about guns with a pinch of salt!

Enjoy your day.

no i have not bought a keman nor one of the (alledgedly) ---- berettas.

shop is well stocked but in MY opinion are overpriced.

on there website one of the coaches cv is totally bulled up beyond belief, i know because i know him and when he FIRST started shooting. mediocre and ok for the complete novice.

i have shot there since it began, when they used to throw clays from his 'now' bedroom windows.

there are better places to go who are more helpful and shooter friendly without being charged the earth.

ta daa :good:

intresting stand shooting across a small lake, sod the clays just fire a few off into the water to see your pattern

same comments as everyone else really, personaly i would go another 10-20 mins down the road to Coniston.

The guys i shoot with, had a bit of a falling out with the grounds guy over dropped carts, there was someone with an auto in front of them, and he had a go at my m8's over the carts on the floor, needless to say they put him right about whos they were, he went away and came back and stood and wacthed my m8, he dropped one cart, which he would of picked up, and he came over again and had another go.. I think a couple of words were said... wasn't there at the time, otherwise i would of shoved the empty carts up his ****.

I'm surprised at that. If you look amongst the bushes and under some of the decking. (especially the raised platform at the lake) they are full of rusty carts and soggy boxes. If they kept the place tidier people would be more inclined to use the buckets! I've been going for a long time and enjoy the targets but the place does need some effort put in. I hate to see trees blasted with shot and when the rabbit runs 10yds then up a heap of clays 6ft high its time for a clean up!!

White Rabbit, that was exactly my comment, when they told me about it..

We've talked about trying coniston for a while now and its the same mileage from our part of the world so i think we'll give it a try next time we have an away day. Imagine it's afew quid cheaper aswell! Kellbrook charge plenty and have full time staff so they have no excuse.

Well went to Kelbrook this afternoon with Annihilator, Tony and Stu, and have to say that i'm glad the doom mongers didn't put us off  .

Staff were friendly and helpful enough, ground was clean and targets were testing enough with small windows of opportunity in which to shoot them.

Whilst the ground wasn't crowded with shooters it did seem a little cramped and on several occasions it was possible to mistake birds from other stands as your own - i even shot one by mistake

Would definitely go back as it does make a change from the norm, but wouldn't visit more than a couple of times a year as i'd rather travel the extra 20 mins (or so) and call into Coniston :good: .

Scores on the doors:

Annihilator 76

Nick 66

Tony 65
