well guys since xmas i have n`t been able to devote the same time to my shooting,i felt i was spending too much time away from the mrs and did n`t think it was fair.last year every available minute i was shooting with shotty/fac air.i recently heard about others shooting my main shoot about a mile round the road.i found empty shells lying about the yard.anyhow i always had a choice of yards to head out shooting.i got out of bed this morning to head to the yard with the air rifle, when i landed just before 5am there were already 2 vehicles parked at the entrance. .so i headed home and lifted the shotty to head to a barley field that i was in yesterday.what did i find other than 3 cars parked and i could see the magnet twirling away.to say i`m dissapointed this morning is an understatement. i always had a good relationship with the farmers but obviously i have slacked off and others have taken over.thing that annoys me though is the fact i`m the **** that rises out of my bed faithfully every morning during the winter months to kill vermin for the farmers.these other guys only appear on nice summer mornings.i am totally gutted today and to be honest i`m considering packing it in and holding on to my beretta just for clays and giving up vermin control for good. maybe sell of my guns and get back to having a nice sportscar again.

To be fair, if you haven't been about for ages or even phoned the farmer to explain then you can't really moan when he gives to shooting to others. Harsh but true i'm afraid.

i see the farmers on a weekly basis mate.i always shot the yards in early morning before the workers came about so as not to disturb anyone.i just think it`s more the fact the other guys are out to take the good shooting this time of year when the pigeon are about.and it`s not that i have n`t been at all.i always gather the dead birds and leave them on the duckle so they can see i`ve been about.

You don't seem to have lost the shooting, just got some people to share it with.

I know all about the summer/harvest shooters, that disappear in the winter when the rape needs looking after.

I would suggest take what you can get with that Farm and do some door knocking.

Know how you feel mate, something similar happened to me on one of my farms were i had a flight pond!! I was doing all the feeding and looking after the vermin, but his younger brother was shooting the pond when i wasn't there, he denied it but i actually sat and watched him do it one evening!! But don't give it up yet it's a kick in the teeth yes but not worth packing it in for!!!

theres a pheasant syndicate next to that farm.my neighbour runs it and owns the ground .if them chaps go in some morning and kill a lot of pheasants i don`t want to be in the locality and have my name brought into any untoward shooting.i have shot the farm for years but don`t want to share it with folk i don`t know.

Dont give it up mate,if as you suspect they are fine weather shooters, you wont be waiting too long before they show there true colours,we have the same problem on our permission, plenty about in the good months but it seems to tail off when the weather turns, true shooters turn up 12 months of the year not 3,so hang in there mate.Or just get to the shoot and get set up before they arrive, and stake you claim early,a bit like a German on a sun lounger

Hi Tweedledee, don't get too upset. Find out who the other shooters are. Don't take it personally, farmers will let people shoot their land until they do some damage, leave litter behind etc. We had a similar problem with a farmer allowing other people to shoot their ground. One day we were shooting the field and he called to see us to tell us other guys were shooting the field the previous day. I said yes I know i seen the pile of rubbish they left. Farmer checked the hedge to find a pile of spent cartridges, boxes and a pair of pants :good:

That was the end of them (the other shooters and the pants)

Keep in there mate.

you should go and say hi to the other shooters and introduce yourself to them so they know who you are and they might like to have you shoot with them at times.

One of the farms I shoot has a few other guns on it but we all work together so we can cover other fields at the same time so we keep the birds moving all the time and then someone will get some good shooting.

It is worth a try :good:
