Guest
If I want to start reloading my own shotgun cartridges, do I need an explosive licence or can I buy gunpowder and wads and everything with my existing shotgun certificate?
lapwing
Yes and no. You will need explosives licence if you are going to use black powder, but not for nitro.
humperdingle
And you only need an explosive license for a large quantity of nitro powder I believe... Can't remember how much exactly, but i'm sure a quick call to your local FLO will sort it. Guest
Thank you that was very helpful. So regular cartridges have blackpowder or nitro powder in them? I basically want to shoot cartridges and "make them" like they used to be and then shoot them again. I don't think I would need a black powder licence. mikee
you wont need any black powder and you can hold upto 5kg of shooters powder by just having a sgc, there is no financial saving in loading lead shells unless you can make your own shot however it is very satisfying to shoot stuff with your own shells, ive reloaded for about 20 years and love it but only now bother with special batches of heavy fox loads in lead and a few game shells but load all my own steel fowling shells, this is where home loading has an advantage over factory ammo, good luck, if you need any help send me a pm mikee
ShropshireJohn
I'm realy tempted to buy myself a Lee Load All II from Midway UK. It would be good to reload my spent cartridges each time I've been rough shooting (I fire off 8-12 max)
Alanl50
Hi I have a LEELOADALL 2 not sure it its relly econimical unless you going to reload Mag loads 3" and 3 1/2" then you can save, but I still reload for ordinary game loads I just love doing it. Vince Green
Its not economical but it does add to your enjoyment when you shoot your own loads.

Floating Chamber
Reloading 12 gauge CAN be economical if you do as we do: 1. Make your own shot (free if your shooting buddies are builders or glaziers!) 2. Make your own card and fibre wads with a punch (free if you have a source of felt offcuts or fibre board!) 3. Re-use plaswads picked up from the shoot. 4. That leaves primers and powder. Eighty quid a thou.
