Clydebuilt
Lo all, Quick question regarding gun cleaning (shotgun) kits. Are there any good quality shotgun cleaning kits available out there which contain everything you need (i.e Bisley Presentation Kit) ? Or… Would I be better off making up a list of essential individual items (brush, jag, oil, bore cleaner etc) and sourcing them separately? Reason I ask, I’ve been tying trout & salmon flies for as long as I care to remember and some of the “kits” I see advertised are complete and utter rubbish! I your experience, is it the same deal with gun servicing equipment kits or not? A nod or a link to a decent kit, or where to buy individual items, would also be very helpful as my old webley cleaning kit is well past it's best!! Thanks Clydebuilt

Imperfection
I've got a cheap Bisely set in a plastic case and just replace the various bits as & when.

alexr
I agree with both imperfection and j@mes get a Gunmat though. It roles neatly into its own bag and has slots for rods, brushes, mops etc. Also stops you messing up the kitchen table. Keeps the little woman happy. dirtydawk
I bought one of these universal cleaning kit thingy mabobs a while back that does from .17 up to 12 bore. The mops for rodding shotguns are fine the big problem I had though was when I tried to scrub the barrel on my .223 the cheap **** brass rod snapped at the threaded end and got stuck in the barrel. It was an absolute epic to get it out. I now find it beter to buy good qulity individual components instead of kits. Cheers Ian
Shuck.
BoresnakeWD40 Kitchen roll. This and some non-specific cheapy gun oil for the trigger group every now and then. Started off with a Bisley kit, only really ended up using the bore brush in it.. Boresnake does this in one pull-through, wheres the brush would take a lot more time brand new. Boresnake (Mines a Snaky from Jack Pike) well worth it, cuts down cleaning time by half. A must have if you clean after every use Edit: Just don't have your best clothes on as when you pull the snake through you get covered in a big cloud of burnt powder Edited August 11, 2009 by Shuck.
