What are your thoughts about this? I think it is cheaper to buy the kits and it is alot easyier. Are pinewood a good make??? Or is ther any other brands what do money saving kits? George1990
If you like spending money go for it. If you don't, look for bargains and make stuff. I got a net, 12 shell decoys with springy sticks, a rotary, poles, clamps and a seat for £63. Good to get you going. I'm going to make some bouncers soon. Net: £12 Decoys: £20 Rotary: £25 Clamps: £6 Poles: Free (hazel sticks) Seat: Free as I found it in the cupboard and I didn't buy it! And yes, I am a tight ****. Imperfection
Instead of getting an expensive kit-why not buy bits and bobs as you progress? The only real things you need initially are maybe a dozen decoys,a hide (and that can be done on the cheap by getting surplus military camo net & cheap poles) and getting yourself on a flightline.Seat wise,i use an empty 25ltr plastic drum with an old cushion. mikee
you can pick loads of cheap stuff up, and to be honest you dont really need a whole lot of gear to get going hide net 4 poles seat deeks bag i take 4 light weight nets, 5 washing line poles which are about £3.50 each, i have 4 25lt lime putty buckets as a seat 1 is stuffed with nets and bits and bobs the others make the seat a comfortable height and then i use them to collect dead birds, i have a commo sports holdall full of shells, lunch, battery, wing spreaders etc, the magnet and floaters hide poles all fit into a light weight bag a bit like a fishing rod holdall and a shoulder bag full of deeks, i can hang them all round my neck to carry them, if i have a long way to walk i have a ball barrow, sounds like a lot but its easy to carry mikee
Greenhunter
I've got more kit than I could ever carry and it sure didn't cost £600 There are places to get hide netting for less than a tenner, its works, I've got some. Hide poles, if weight is not a problem, start with the washing line props from Wilkinsons. Another Tenner 6 shell deeks, rough them up and paint them with matt paints. £15ish A couple of decent floaters/bouncers (depends who's you buy, £120 for Chris Greens, £70 if you get them off that bloke on PW Our sponsors do a good deal in bouncers. You can send me the £495 change Buy a rotary at the Midland Game fair if you must have one! Still nowhere near £600. Learn to use it bit by bit and add to it when you have found out what works. mr salt
You can spend what you want, But i would say go shooting with someone thats done it for years. What you learn will be worth more than anything you can buy. What you need min. A gun A field or wood.(with pigeons ) Ammo (6 shot 30-32grms ish, not clay loads) 1/2 choke in gun. a few decoys (6 ish) Dull jacket. This will do as a min, But beware its different to clays you are going to kill something. which you need to get your head around before you spend anything. Go out with someone and see if you like hunting cheers scott
