pyr8
no reason why not,it,s blackthorn.not a popular bush/tree the further north you go.have a look in hedges and copses not a huge plant about 15/16ft max.watch the thorns if you do find one.the bark is dark/black in colour.the berrys are very dark blue or black, the birds love em as well so you may have a fight on your hands, good hunting. Chard
They can be very erratic some years Sometimes the bushes are absolutely black with them, other years there's hardly any

henry d
You should be looking for sloes in the spring and note where you see the bloom of their lush white flowers, then check the same again in the early summer to see if the bloom was polinated and then collect in the autumn. Best of mate !!
darebear
oh dear lord, i ~heart~ home-made sloe gin.
bruno22rf
Its a well known fact that historically sloe gin can never be ready for christmas day-as it takes a minimum of 3 months to mature then sloes are normally harvested in october or even november. This year we have trees heavy with them since april!!!-they are still everywhete in Bucks. When you do locate them and make your nectar-try adding a tiny drop of almond essence -superb! ,good luck. DaveK
I've been checking my local stash for a while now and they're coming on nicely. I don't normally harvest them until October but may follow the example and get on with it ASAP. Can someone remind me how I can tell that they're ready. October I'd just get on with it but this early I'm not sure what to look for. And yes there are sloes near Wakefield and No I'm not telling you where my stash is They're mine I tell you. All mine B) ???
