darebear
frontline your dog. or, cover it in vaseline which will suffocate the little sod, but it takes a while. failing that, if you dog will let you, pull it out - but you have to make sure you get all the bits out to ensure it doesn't become infected. Imperfection
Vaseline is a good method, but be careful in case the tick regurgitates inside the wound its created when it starts to sufficate.Check for any sign of inflamation when it drops off and apply some magnesium sulphate paste to draw out any puss or foreign bodies. There is also a tick removal tool here.

spider72
The best way is to use a tick removing tool, (tick picker etc...) failing that, vaseline etc... as mentioned before make sure you get all the bits out. Always follow up with anti-bacterial wipe or anti-biotic if you can get it.

Use fine twizzers or the the otom tick twister making sure you get the head out. After removing the tick clean the area with iodine or something. Do NOT use any method which may cause the tick to regurgitate its stomach contents such as vaseline, cigarette, tweezers etc
