    New car

To be brief, Forrester, X-Trail, Shogun. Forrster cos it's more of a 'car' and will please the wife (still very capable off road), X-trail, a bit bigger but still has the 'car' feel, shogun is more of a 'proper' off road vehicle but is still ok on road and motorways if a little thirsty (I get around 25-28/ gallon (2.8 tdi)).
  2. Hope you've got the land cleared for your .270 cos even with the deer fence they'll get through somewhere... depending on where you are in wiltshire we seem to have a huge muntjac problem county wide and the roe this year seem to be everywhere... Rabbits could be a problem but I'm sure you will have no shortage of voulenteers to help out from this site!!
  3. Savoury pancakes to start, creamy garlic mushroom with bacon, for dessert honey lemon and sugar.... Yum...
  4. TEA Lots of TEA black with sugar, re-hydrate and sort out the electrolytes, coupled with a fully greasy fry up sorts you right out. Failing that... more sleep or more beer. bloody mary etc etc....
  5. My old 1996 (P) BMW 318i is still for sale. It has MOT and Tax till March 2010, is a 4 door saloon and is white. (see attached photo's) Asking price is £850.
  6. Keep hydrated, plenty of water and I mean PLENTY at least 2 litres (that's 4-5 pints) a day. Paracetamol should get the fever down and keep drinking water.
  7. 7.5's are ok for decoying or anything under say 25yds (28g load or higher) I generally use eley high flyer number 6's 30g load for pigeons and pheasant. I know a guy who uses 36g 4's for pigeon!
  8. Depends on what you're used to, over and under, side by side, semi auto. With your budget second hand is really the only way to go (more for your money) maybe a Lanber or Lincoln (newer) or Browning, Baikal etc.. there are a lot in the price bracket. Try a few if you can and see how you get on with them, someone once told me 'never buy a gun unless you've tried it out' Good luck
  9. If you're in Portishead get over to the Weston Lodge Shooting Ground (they have a website) and talk to the instructors (maybe have a round of clays while you're there) I've been there a couple of times and all the guys take part in various forms of shooting, you may get a shortcut, if not the old knocking on doors and getting yourself known is best. Good luck.
  10. In the past I've had road kill pheasant, rabbit and roe deer. These days a lot more care is needed as with some of the larger animals the carcass can possibly contain a high level of barbituates from a vet euthanasing it, there have been cases in the past of this. As far as I am aware I think you can only pick up things that have been hit by other drivers not yourself
  11. I don't get on with the cartridge belts, mainly cos the 'roof over the tool shed' gets in the way , so it's a cartridge bag from which I top up a pocket for me. Haven't done much pigeon shooting but I guess if in a hide I'd use the bag.
  12. They're pretty standard brass cheese head screws. Most places should stock them, maybe not in the small size you want though, why only number 4 screws? very small screw unless used for piano hinges etc... You should be able to find them at any place like B&Q or Homebase, Focus, Wickes etc.... etc....

    Flatulence

Real ale and pork scratchings Once in a hotel in Germany after a night on the local dark beer and a good steak I actually managed to wake myself and maybe the neighbours up in the middle of the night
  14. Me, I'd get a second hand head from the breakers and rebuild that with new plugs on the bench (and a good cleanup) then a straight swap for the damaged one, which can then be sorted (helicoil or otherwise) and re-sold. Then trade in the car for something not french.
  15. Not pitted, some evidence of surface rust which someone has tried to sand off!! nothing major and the bores are immaculate. I reckon £50 is a fair price as is. The action is fine and tight it's really just cosmetic.
  16. A hearty Wellcome fro a fellow Wilthshirite!
  17. Yeah, I figured that one!! but where to start? was thinking around £20 - £50 and work up?
  18. What price should I pay for an extremely tatty Yeoman (needs re-blueing at least) 12g sbs?
  19. Something like that yeah, doesnt look like it says on the box
  20. Right here goes: 1974 Vauxhall Viva 1300 (resprayed Porsche red with Opal Manta wheels (crashed into a ditch)) 1974 Hillman Avenger 1300 Estate (lasted a week, blew it up on the way to work) 1979 Ford Escort Mk2 1100 Estate 1972 Mini Clubman (rebuilt from the ground up by me, 1275 engine, cooper s brakes, 0-60 ~ 9 secs) 1966 Landrover swb diesel (brilliant machine and great fun) 1967 Ford Anglia 1200 super (partially restored and sold on) 1976 Vauxhall Chevette (pants) 1984 Ford Escort Mk 3 1300 (it was free) 1986 Vauxhall Cavalier 1600 (rusted out) 1994 Renault 5 1.4 (the reason I'll never buy a french car again) 1996 BMW 318i 1979 Reliant Scimitar GTE 3.0 1996 Mitsubishi Shogun 2.8 TDi ------ Robin Hood kit car (not finished yet) Worst car? probably the Avenger or the Renault. Best car? a toss up between the Mini and the Landrover, both brilliant fun but for different reasons
  21. 86 is a good age, and it sounds like he filled it to the full, I lost my Dad (72) last year and I still miss him but I try to focus on the good times we had, fishing and shooting mostly. You had good times (or great times) keep them alive My condolencses to you and yours.

Cz would be my choice. After recently looking over several makes and models with my sister the CZ comes out top of the list for value for money. The Anschutz are not as good as they used to be, I found them to be a little 'clunky' with a fairly poor build quality for the asking price. The Wierauch were a different matter, quite expensive but far superior action and quality of build. Like I said CZ for a first good all rounder. Good luck.
  23. As you know Wilf is a sound guy and knows his stuff. I have a Parker Hale Moderator (cheap at £20 ish) on my BSA and that is pretty much silent, you hear the bullet strike and that's about it, I'm sure He'll see you right. Are you buying the rifle from him too? I've looked at the cz's in the Sportsman in Exeter and they are a good rifle, well made and functional, I'm afraid our purchase went slightly higher on the price bracket and went for the Wierauch in .17 calibre (my sister not me) Good luck mate, Paul
  24. It's an hour and a half for me too. But... I try and combine it with a shopping trip for the wife to clarks village... she shops and I go to Avalon. A good compromise I think If you are interested in one (or more) of the guns and book to go during the week they will take you to a local clay ground to try them out too. A good shop
