Baldrick
Are they peasants or serfs? I always try to be politically correct They are peasants, for sure. Serfs are slightly higher up the food chain - they have progressed from the primeval ooze of Escort ownership, and have risen to the lofty heights of Browning Medallist ownership. Jim Sarakun
My, have I missed some interesting post's worthy of a response, whilst at work, working hard too so I can pay lot's of tax so these Benneli Berreta owners and the like can keep claiming their benefit cheques. Some one has to keep them solvent as I for one would miss their charm, wit and intellect on this site. Can't really stop now either as my mate in the local gun shop has phoned and asked me to collect some Tesco value T shirts for him. He's having them printed with the above gun makers logo, seems that's all the afore mentioned owners can afford, ready for the Quy Game fair up the road this Bank Holiday weekend. If any of you guys can afford to attend that, you could all come in one of Baldricks tractors, chip in for the fuel and save a few bob, then pop along to the clay stands where me and my mates with our Datsuns can show you how to knock down those clays. Bring your Berretas, it's not supposed to rain, so they wont spoil. If it does I'll lend you my trusty Datsun, who knows, with a quality gun like this, you might hit something for a change. Joking apart though, I will give credit where it is due. Only last year at Quy, I was on a stand with the guys, shooting alongside a shiny, got it out of the cabinet for the show, so every one can see I've got one, Berreta owner. He kept hitting the clays on the stand next to us. Do you think he was giving the ones on the stand he was on, too much leed, or just showing off? Jim Sarakun
AAAH! Baldrick, my role model, why are you up so early? The DHSS doesn't open till 10.00. Yes it did put me off my stride. First time I've seen someone hit about 300 clay's with one shot. Maybe there IS something magical about these Barretas and I am missing out. You could see the Trap behind the bales at the next stand and with his last shot he took them all out.

Ozzy Fudd
anyway, just something thats been bugging me a bit. what, really, is everyones problem with escorts? is it because theyre cheap? or is it because some of them seem to be quite unreliable? (being tactful there) the unreliability bit i can understand, thats why i use mossberg pumps (after having a nightmare with a benelli s/a), but then again both my pumps cost less than £300 - and yes, i am one of those who wouldnt spend a lot of money on a gun that will get wrecked when rough shooting, for the simple reason that im quite good at wrecking guns when i go rough shooting... starlight32
The notion of someone being in the office for a day of gainful employment at 0743h, is obviously a disturbing concept for many Escort owners. Is there people out there who work in an office and own an escort? That cannot be true. Balders I have just sent the draft minutes this coming coffee morning.. I have made a slight revision to my topic on gun manufacture. I am going to include the benefit of machine cut threads for barrel chokes, as opposed to those that are cut by hand, in a back yard with a hand tap. PW fact. yep, a benelli montefeltro, it refused to cycle anything apart from 32g 6's, let me down big time at a local clay shoot one day, had to use the mossberg 500 after the first stand (and still came about 4th...) - and even better, got a benelli nova and swapped it for another mossberg a week later, it was too fiddly... Is there people out there who work in an office and own an escort? i work in an office and own two mossbergs - where does that leave me?! So what side of the fence are you playing then with your cabinet? Good gun, bad gun scenario? Balders we must have another revision to club rules. We cannot allow dual ownership applicants in. Might taint our objectives.

J@mes
*Until* my escort blows up, I am in the escort camp! I shoot nearly all the time with my 687 but have shot two 100 bird rounds on the trot with my escort using 28g 7.5's and didnt have one missfire, missfeed, jam, the gun didn't fall apart and the barrel didn't blow off either. Chokes stayed tight too. Have shot put another 500 shots through it too with no issues. I do have one of the newer ones with the curved butt plate if that makes any difference, but I still only paid £160 for it second hand. I know it's a bit of fun, and people shouldn't be bothered about what others think but sometimes I wonder if people are actually being offended by what is written in the escort bashing threads meaning that newcomers with escorts are less likely to join in through fear of ridicule. Joining a new forum can be daunting for some people anyway, without seeing people relentlessly ripping the **** out of the type of gun that they own. I bought mine purely for rough shooting so I didn't have to use my 687, might seem daft to some but really it's no different to having a £10 pair of wellies to take the dog for a walk instead of wearing £100+ trainers. Yes, both can do the same job but one I don't mind getting dirty, wet, knocked, scratched etc and the other I do.
al4x
you're a shooting beginner though James, you can't be expected to see the light, my 686 comes out in all weathers and has been through some very rough cover in its time so doesn't get looked after that well. But I bought it to use and based on the fact I'm yet to have a gun break on me you can actually have a decent gun for life. Ok your escort works fine now but compare it to my B80 which has seen serious use and keeps on going, have no idea on its age but I know I've put 10k of shells through it at least and it had worked hard before me. Once we get a hatstand to that sort of point without imploding maybe we'll believe how good they are
J@mes
It's not so much that, but when I come to sell my 687 (which I will do at one point) I want it to be in the same condition as what it was when I bought it - and therefore get my money back. Can't really ask good money for a gun which is covered in dings, scratches and the rest. The escort, I don't really care about it. So I don't mind resting it on a fence, leaving it on the floor, banging the barrels on something or scratching it on something else. Much like having my new disco for best and my old one for shooting, eh....?
al4x
Just get out and use it!! Mine looks fine ok you look after it within reason and I'm not one for dropping or knocking guns yes they can pick up the odd dink etc but you can do that putting it in the cabinet and you can get them out. Value wise you'll get most of your money back even if it has been used. Plus you have the enjoyment that goes with using a decent gun

J@mes
But I enjoy using my hatsan! It's been reliable for me so far and it fits ok. what's not to like? I like the fact I'm not always worrying about damaging it. makes shooting with it more enjoyable. I put gunsocks on both so they cant get damaged when coming in and out of the cabinet Edited August 21, 2009 by J@mes

(being tactful there) That was tactful? Your not a money lender are you babby? It's the unreliable bit that threw me. No more no less than any other gun is the answer to that one. The gun is so popular right now and sales are at a high, so more reports on it can be expected, good and bad. I may be wrong babby, but I think there is a town and gown type thingy going on here. People with more disposable capital thinking they are better at everything than anyone else. You may accuse me here of borrowing Baldricks chip, but no, it's just an observation. I used to own a Savage 12gauge pump, but found that the shells tried to fall out and then jam, when reloading for the second bird on the Springing Teal type shot. Does this happen with the Mossy, or has this problem now been eradicated from pumps, the only reason I never bought another in Datsun format but chose the semi instead. Don't worry J@mes, your Datsun won't give you any more problems than a B. word gun. You chose well with your purchase as we all know the B. word gun is primarily used for checking your gun mounting in front of a large mirror when the weather outside is less than 70 degrees. Offended by what is written? You must be referring here to the 80's child who was bought up in this new age, bubble pack world, chauffeured to school in a Chelsea Tractor and not allowed to light his own fireworks. No.... I think they give as good as they get. I think any new member will soon get a grasp after reading the content on PW and joyfully join in. The "ribbing" found in PW is really no different to most other Forums anyway and could probably be labeled as quite tame in comparison. I hope you'll agree with me here, that the "bashing" as you call it, does bring out some humorous little gems and I am constantly having to replenish my coffee cup because of it , Tesco value I hasten to add, very nice. No offense here, but try some, it contains "backbone".
Delbert
Balders, Slight mad moment there-I retract the earlier offer of an opening to Lanber owners Thanks for that I was about to decline membership on the basis that I wouldn't want to be a member of any club that would accept somebody like me as a member. So what shall I shoot with today Lanber , Master, Beretta, BSA, nope I feel curmudgeonly so its got to be the Lincoln. This thread is really very good its giving Baikal owners a welcome break.
