Ozzy Fudd
All week i'd been planning on hitting the barley at one of the farms, this is the scene that greeted richie and me this morning at 8am it looks good, the farmer had decided to cut the barley and put it in the silos for the cattle, but it wasnt ripe. we found out last night but thought we might as well head up anyway, even if nothing was coming into the stubble thered still be crows coming into the barns we got the decoys set out anyway and the camo net up on the yard gate (theres a gate at the corner of the yard, we put the net on it and use it as a hide, simple but it works). we werent shooting too bad, we had 12 crows and 3 pigeons by 10am when disaster struck - the farmer and a few farm hands (including my uncle) arrived to start lifting all the cut barley in the field, so decoys had to be lifted, camo net had to be taken down and we basically had to keep out of the way we dossed about for an hour or so but nothing came anywhere near us with all the tractors going in and out of the yard, so we called a break and went for a fry in town. stuffed our faces and flirted with the blonde waitress for a while (they only seem interested when your not single ) and arrived back up at the yard at 1, just as everyone else was leaving for dinner. theyd cleared half the field, but unfortunately not the half we wanted to shoot in. we went and looked at the side they had cleared, there wasnt alot of places to set a hide against the hedge due to the lie of the field, plus as we were sandwiched with the yard and all the men working on our right/behind us, and a road/lane on our left, we could only shoot directly forwards. but, not being good boy scouts, we'd only brought one camo net and no poles, so we improvised we rolled an old round feeder out into the field and wrapped the camo net around it. found a couple of old bright green garden nets in the decoy sack (they give a bit more substance to the hide) so we stuck those on under the net too. we werent too convinced it would work, it stood out too much as you can see, but this was the result at 6pm today we got another 26 crows and 5 more pigeons (inc a couple of ferals) between the two of us, grand total for the day was 8 pigeons and 38 crows, shot ratio just under 3:1 so not bad at all :look: heres a couple more pics i took, see if you can spot anything interesting in them...
