I borrowed fleabags Camcorder

A local farm changed hands recently. The outgoing farmer was a rabbit lover who apparently had a spotting scope trained on one of the more infested areas alongside a busy A road with houses opposite.

The new owners will be using those fields for crop so something had to be done. Fleabag and I have shot over 400 bunnies there in the last four months or so but some 200 have been accounted for driving over stubble. Most of the shots I tried to record were off screen - it's a difficult balance to fit shooting in while getting it just right on video single handed.

nice work on the rabbits, not sure that pigeon would have been worth picking up! :good:

The pigeon were pure pest control which also gets the others lifted - possibly reluctant to return another day. :hmm:

About 70 rabbits went to a local butcher last week and quite a few other went to elderly friends. The smaller rabbits and any that ended up too messy were left to foxes and birds of prey etc. Sorry the deer picture was so grainy - I zoomed in from about 300 yards as daylight faded.

Well this morning I took a drive round on the field where the pigeons were shot yesterday.

Both have been taken with only minimal feathers where they were shot. Whilst there yesterday we found pigeon feathers scattered about a yard in diameter which leads me to believe there is wildlife that eats at the scene, and some that takes it away. I have seen both fox and a large bird of prey in the fields - I don't profess to know what it was and won't blag it either.

I hear what some of you say regarding the pigeon and I respect your feelings, but I'm sure the reason farmers want pigeon cleared is because they damage crop rather than to provide us with free food and it's still two less pigeons to come back after the field has been drilled. The small and spoiled rabbits I had left have all gone too - so some wildlife is getting very well fed in that area. We have been asked not to shoot fox there as he has no game or small livestock to protect.

A farmer near me has twice asked if I could do some pigeon shooting when he drills his rape soon - but he accepts that rabbit is my thing with only an occasional pigeon while I'm at it. There is a potential opportunity arising for a pigeon shooter near the eastern Leicester city border but I have to admit to a slight selfishness here and would only put a non rifle shooter forwards for it as I still want the rabbiting. Hope that sounds fair enough to anyone likely to take this up? Any local pigeoner interested PM me or post on this thread.

i wasnt casting judgement on the pigeon by the way!! a dead pigeon is a dead pigeon, and if the farmer wants them removed then i have absolutley no issue with how (as long as its humane) its done and what happens to the pigeon afterwards :good:

I would say a Fox has taken the 2 away and the one with scattered feathers is from your bird of prey - probably a buzzard
