Underdog
Think that is the wrong link sorry. So is it just a buffer to compensate for pressure differences? It may just need some plastic buffers either end! Or a short delrin rod in the middle!! U.
malkiserow
This one, the spring goes inside Edited November 25, 2014 by malkiserow
Underdog
That looks like it is suffering from recoiling shock waves. Can the replacement have a plastic rod inside it for half its length? Or brake it somehow!
Underdog
Any use? http://www.entexstocksprings.co.uk/
malkiserow
I am guessing it brakes the return stroke back into the piston chamber fixed to the barrel. If so, then the travel is just 5 is mm. A liner could go in. If this was needed I may take this up with Browning as the spring has failed big-time Edited November 25, 2014 by malkiserow
Underdog
I would study just what it's purpose is and try and improve on it. One thing does stand out, there is to much percussion going on for that spring! If it is just cushioning shock I bet suitable rubber may be adequate. It may be part of the regulation of higher pressure loads, just offering some resistance to the piston do it does delay unlocking a fraction of a second. I mean, just how bad could it be! U. Westley
Buy it long and trim till its right! :-) Just what does this spring do ? U. BREAK, apparently !

Westley
Does anyone have a Winchester which has suffered the same problem, I believe they are both the same ?
Guest cookoff013
You can get an aftermarket piston either sealed so have no more spring issues. But its for standard loads. With the modern loads etc its something else to take the punishment. I been serious looking at a maxus.
TIGHTCHOKE
Seems some places will sell just the springs. I'd try getting browning to replace it for free as they should last,Best of luck. Figgy Malk, did you contact BWM?
malkiserow
Malk, did you contact BWM? Yup, they said "speak to your dealer" and they will sort out the part number etc. They confirmed that they will not sell a spring only to a dealer/gunsmith it needs to be the gas piston assembly. TIGHTCHOKE
So then do we look at it not being fit for purpose? Do they have a spring problem across the Maxus range?
Guest cookoff013
So then do we look at it not being fit for purpose? Do they have a spring problem across the Maxus range? Its a well known issue. Apparently sorted.
TIGHTCHOKE
Apparently not in this case!
alastair0903
Apparently it was the early ones that were trouble . I have had my maxus since 2012 and is has been faultless .
TIGHTCHOKE
Thank you, apparently that's why I hadn't heard of the problem!

figgy
Check out American forums and it's happening more than it should. On both the Winchesters and Brownings. The makers of the sleeved valves seems to have stopped making them for some reason. See if a spring company in UK can supply you with a replacement.
