right thats great, i think we should discount deer in the whole equation. it can always be added at a later date if things change. i would probably say out to about 35-40 yards, im a great believer in stalking and at least giving the animal a chance before blowing it away. lol

cheers for the advice, the shooting on the estate is rented out but on the conditions family get it whenever. i have also got friendly with one of th frequent shooters so im going to try and get a day with them. i was just wanting advice and i know alot of people on here are frequent rifle shooters. im a member of basc already. we dont have a rifle club near to us unfortunately.

Hi, im looking for information on rifles. The problem i have is i dont know where to start at the moment i havnt applied for a fac but in the next 6 months or so i would like to. i want every possile peice of information i can aquire to help the process. so here goes,my uncle has a 3500 acre shooting estate of which i have rights ot shoot there. i would ideally like a gun that will be a good all rounder. i understand that when shooting deer there is certain regulations. also what to the letters at the end of the caliber stand for e.g. hmr, wmr and so on. can anyone point me in the right direction at what i should be looking at. finally,it will mainly be rabbits and occasionally fox. from experiance and im 5'9/10 and well built, i find 20 bores horrid things, i have shot a few and hate them i feel there too light and produce to much recoil therefore id say go from a .410 straight to a 12 if she can handle it.

Jesus,mary and joseph thats bloody insane. id be surprised if i could see an object at 350 yrads nevermind aim and shoot it square between the eyes. i also wouldnt have dreamt of taking the shot as its far to in-accurate at that distance.

i was able to shoot my dad air rifle under supervision at 9, then 11 again under strict supervision got to shoot my neighbours .410 and it progressed from there.

my 2p worth, after a long time searching,reading reviews asking oppinions i got nowhere. one person says this the other says the opposite. i had a budget so off i go with the old man to a gun dealers in edinburgh. chose a gun (miroku 800 ore) way over my price range but didnt fit was to short,needed cast and also bent. i found ut that this can be altered and got the alterations. it just so happened there was the same gun with all the alteration but another customers i tried this and fell in love. just out of curiosity i tried a gun that was lose to 5 grand same stock dimensions and i hated it. after a lengthy rabble my point is,get to a guin dealers and try everything,find out if they do alterations then decide. ive had s.e's for the last 3 years and love them. i have currently got interested and bought me a dslr so have no need for a good picture phone and will be reverting back to the nokia 5210i. the n95,great phone,great camera crappy firmware,batt life and "cheaply" built. i belive the new 8gb one is meant to be better but at 400 odd quid aint cheep. thats a gd few hours at the shooting ground

i always remember reading: .177 for feather .22 for fur as i mainly shoot rabbits im a .22 man myself.
