Reloading Advice please?
activeviii replied to Frenchieboy's topic in Bullets, Cartridges and Reloading
You beat me to it. the reloaded i bought 2nd hand, gave it a clean and its now as new. Neil set it for overall length and showed me the ropes. now i can load 10 rounds in a few minutes as its that easy. ok at the moment im potting the powder but thats only after the pot was set to the right grain of powder, it is very surprisingly accurate. 150 rounds and its all paid for itself. Reloading Advice please?
activeviii replied to Frenchieboy's topic in Bullets, Cartridges and Reloading
I have started to load my 222 T3 for the same reason as you, can't get a steady supply of cheap PPU. After help from NJC and no doubt more help to follow, i have gone as cheap as possible as i only want a bullet to hit within 30mm at 100 paces. i dont take longer shots than this so no need to pay silly money. I have bought a 2nd hand Lee loader, the one you smack with a hammer in truth its very easy so a wooden hammer is enough to do it. i have only tried A-Max bullets, can be posted as not needed on your ticket £20/100. powder is £40 a shout and will load about 300 case's, primers £4/100 i started with 10% less powder as it says on the tub and i have only gone up by about 1gn but im hitting within what im after. i will adjust a little more and try a few differant bullets but for now 38p a click for me is happy days. the lee loader i bought was £30 posted. great thing about it is its all in an A5 size box so i can take it to the range and play with powders and bullets with out having to take half the shed with me. when i up the calibre i will do the same again. it's just a cut off tip of antler. drill a hole in blunt end. then a little buffalo horn with a 4mm hole. thread the leather strip though hole and wipe finish to hole in place. fill hole in horn with 2 pack glue and clamp together until set. then file black bit to shape and sand all the antler and Buffalo smooth then polish. i did think about it but she is stronger than me soi need a longer stick.
-
If you can wait until the leaves have dropped then i can sort you some out but you'll have to season it. i have a wood that they copice just for stick i drilled out the thick end with a 12mm drill and down 50mm. put the lead in a smelt pot to melt and then very very carefully poured into the end. ten put the black cap on end.
-
I have to make another but to be truthful........its put together roughly and then sanded and sanded then the black bit is polished to a shine. epoxy resin to glue the bits together but a bolt added for reinforcement.

just going to stick a heat lamp in for when they come back soaked.

Thanks Ian. I'm chuffed with the way it came out. I wanted it for the shoot this year as i have been invited to do a spot of picking up with my cocker, if he don't behave then i will use the other end on him I thought about it bit it just wouldn't look the same.

I have a bit of time so popped down the shed. Never made one before so it's my first go at it. lead loaded for 50mm and then capped with buffalo horn ends. walking stick end next for the wife. Phil.

I shot 4's last year and had once plucked, i found alot of the shot in the feather and had only just bruise the skin. this year i have stepped up to 3's like said above. I dont shoot many so just go and buy a couple of boxes at a time, any left over at the end i will use on the pigeons for the hawkers. Phil.

Lintran as said do a half box but i bought the double box and then i can put dogs in one side(cockers) and wet gear, carts and things in the other side. gun lays ontop and i just use a couple bungy straps to hold it in place. Phil.

I'm not going to be rude as thats not me, but, i see where al4x is coming from on this one as ferretmanabu asked for more details about the beating on the newnham shoot, not details on where to get more beating. the polite thing would have been to PM him and not hyjack a post with an advert. still! no harm done just a bit thoughtless i guess. ATB Phil.

I will get the date for you as soon as i get them. very busy time of year for all keepers so i'm not hassling them for dates but will try and get them for you on saturday as im popping over to try give them a hand catch up with a few jobs...try is the key word here.hehe. All the best Phil.

You could teach the pup to hold the dummy right. there was a sticky about this a while ago. the Quest dummy discs are what i use at the moment. i like them because if you throw them like a skipping stone you can lay a scent trail as it rolls. unlike a dummy they hits the deck and just stops. also they fit the pocket so i can always carry one with ease.

DIY Pigeon Flocking & Painting Camo Effect
activeviii replied to Thestoat's topic in Craft and DIY Section
Just to add. if you want to darken the colour then no need to add more black, just use darker paint to start with. you can paint the breast with a red tint and then flock over it with the normal mix and you will get the tint of red coming though. same on the back for the wings, use a oak brown paint on wings and you will end up with a colour close the the real bird colour. All the best Phil. -
how do pigeons know from a distance as to male/female ? I had one last year that dropped into the pattern from no where, straight on to anther bird that was shot earlier and was trying to do the deed. it didn't walk around it and try courting, it trying to nail it straight away, that was until bobby dazzler nailed it with lead. I have just read a study on them and it says that spring is the easier time to identify them and it was done with wings and something else. Phil.
