  7. Hi Chris, I am from Carlton, Notts. Still having lessons and havent got my license as yet but it shouldn't be long. Will be up for clays most weekends Tried Oxton & Orston but although Oxton is more expensive for lessons you get a lot more time on the gun and I seem to be learning more there, also the missus is quite petite and at Oxton she used a 20 gauge which suited her better, Orston insisted on her using a 12 and her accuracy suffered. Che
  8. I guess what would be helpfull would be to have a sticky somewhere (say in gun sales?) which gives 'guide' prices for both new and used, like an 'aim to pay' figure as a lot of magazines give nowdays for all kinds of products. It would be really helpful to us newbies as there are so many different brands and models I have found it really difficult to gauge what is a good price and whats not. If someone has volunteered to monitor and update this 'aim to pay' section then brilliant, let them do it I say Anything that encourages honest and fair pricing for both new and used guns would benefit us all in the long term, the idea of 'aim to pay' is great because, for example if a dealer is doing a good price on a new gun and we are made aware, it will encourage healthy competition between the other dealers. win win

    RSPCA

Sounds like the muppet who reported you was probably at fault for the way they turned up. Agree they should go to get facts rather than have preconceptions though

    RSPCA

Well I am about to probably become the most unpopular newbie on the site but I have volunteered in the past with the RSPCA, I donate monthly and have had positive experiences of the organisation. The majority of people on the ground do the job because they genuinely care for the welfare of animals. Our pets have come from there shelters and the people who work there on the whole give more care an attention to those animals than some parents give to there kids these days. I wouldnt comment on individual cases because obviously there are black sheep in every organisation, workplace, family, etc.. and I guess the RSPCA are no different. I don't really know what other motives the organisation leaders may have but trust me the vast majority of volunteers and employees do it because they want to help animals, people and the community. Its in no-one's interest to go around snitching and prosecuting/being awkward to make a point. I can sort of understand the reasons for the social services link but admit its likely to be wholey abused in the long term. IMHO it shouldnt be policy, just common sense. If you genuinely suspected your neighbour of abusing his wife/kids, would you not tell anyone? What am I doing on here you probably ask, well I class myself as an animal lover but I eat meat so would be hypocritical to say you shouldn't kill animals. I don't like the idea of killing for the sake of it I'll admit, but if its for food (both for humans or animals), vermin control, and many other reasons etc... I have no problems, Its necessary,I've done it too. I dont won't to cause any probs, just felt someone needed to say something positive for the people who do it for the right reasons.
  19. I'd go for the crosser but it would all depend on the place you can use it. Ive turned mine into a supermoto now as all the local off road places have either closed or the old bill spend all weekend patrolling. We had our chassis numbers taken once and told if we came back they would confiscate the bikes. We were always careful, wore the right kit and were always courteous to horse riders/walkers etc.. It was unfortunately the small percentage of idiots that spoilt it for everyone (as is the case with most things unfortunately). My advice is if youve got a genuine place to use one then go for it, if not buy the gun Che
  20. Many thanks njc, Ive sent him a pm Che
  21. Thanks for the info guys, just wanted something cheap to start out with, will give it some thought. Cheers Che
  22. You can normally pick up a good cheap laptop from dell, the 'inspiron' range start at £299, there business 'vostro' laptops start around the same price also. I'd personally go with dell from experience but at the bottom prices theres not alot between them. If youre mobile phone contracts up for renewal soon you could get a free one with a new contract from quite a few places, or amazon or dabs.com sometimes have some good deals on. I'd recommend a Belkin wireless router where possible, has a good range and its got a lifetime guarantee and has been spot on with the ones I and friends have. Theres two diffenet types depending on wheter your broadbands is from a cable company or through the telephone network. Can't remember which ones which but the box will tell you. best of luck with whichever you go for. Che
  23. Silly question from a novice here but can you dismantle a semi like you can remove the barrel from an o/u? looking at a gun cabinet for broken guns (i.e smaller cabinet) but was wondering if that would be of any use if I fancied a semi in the near future? Cheers Che
  24. I asked the club owner who's giving me lessons the same question at the weekend as I like the semi's. He said the two reasons there not as popular with people for clays is as has been mentioned previously its not obvious when its not live but also in some disciplines your spent cartridges will be flying past a fellow shooter and possibly put them off.
