  1. absolutely right MC.... santa maria del sur did not put a foot wrong in the semi final, yet got knocked out by Lasan who's service to the 30 diners was a little shabby. I thought the competition was to find the best "LOCAL" restaurant.... yet the 2 in the final were more the type of restaurant who look to try and gain michelin stars with the type of food that they serve. whereas Snta Maria DS was a typical local restaurant... serving a more limited menu... but doing what they do VERY well. i think they should have won the whole thing. SMDS is just up the road from where my brother lives, & I have penned in a visit for later this month/1st week of feb. that steak looked AWSOME!!!
  2. ballymac don't take this as gospel, but in my experience pretty much any individual can be let go/sacked/whatever you like to call it under 12 months service. Trial periods, etc, I think become pretty irrelevant. once you reach the 12-month mark, this is where an unfair dismissal claim can come in to play, prior to 12 mths service... the only hope an individual has of bringing an unfair dismissal case is for sexual or racial discrimination - the 1st qu's my previous legal advisors for my old co. used to ask were what race was someone, what sex, and if female, whether pregnant... when asking them where i stood on sacking someone prior to them completing 12 months service. so your daughter is over the 12 month threshold, so if anything were to happen to her.... the employer would have to be very careful. ref. your daughters friend, I think you will find that the employer does not have to give much of a reason, & is within their rights to terminate her employment - hence the reason she has been given 1 weeks notice. (doesn't sound like she has been "sacked" for gross misconduct or anything.... as the employer would not need to go down this route, just a stright termination of contract would be fine). again, as I say, this is just my understanding of what is a VERY complicated area of the law. I am sure someone like Mungler would be able to post something, as this is most probably an area his firm deal in. hope it helps.
  3. fair point.... have struggled to find anything cheaper than in the £130's anyway, so may have to bite the bullet myself! Jon
  4. Jon would be interested where u r ordering from & price, etc.... as I need to order some more - have always used Comp X 21g 7.5 for sporting. am running out, but the last 2 times I have bought, I got them at west kent shooting school when they had a deal on... last time was around 5 months ago, when they were doing them at £108 per 1000 which was a steal (regret not having bought more!)... now they are selling at £130-odd per 1000. Previous cheapest I had found prior to West kent was essex gun at £117 per 1000.... but that was around 8 months ago! have looked a bit on the net, but not found any cheapish deals. so if anyone finds anything on comp X .... I will buy a chunk - 5000-10,000. Jon
  5. yep, agreed.... my experience is very good. went to him with a couple of guns when I just started shooting, he ended up advising me to trade them in for something that would fit better off the shelf, instead of charging me £100's to make mine fit. i have found his charges fair, and work good & timely.
  6. yep, agree with the posts so far in that wasn't really worth it. I bought a 2-day ticket, stayed over..... had the show done in a couple of hours. worth it if you know people in the trade, were looking for a clay trap (as all the manufacturers were there), wanted to look for a new gun. other than that, pretty poor turn out from exhibitors..... but loads of people came so was really busy to get round. it would have to have changed A LOT for me to go again this year. traffic was poo....
  7. http://www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/vid...nd-george-video watch the video.....

  9. any opinions on whether this is any good? http://www.dabs.com/products/bt-home-monit...p1000-4K43.html
  10. .... there was a hint of sarcasm there.... but still prefer shooting in gloves...
  11. as a glove wearer..... or "tart" as many would call it...! I wear them for 2 reasons: 1. i started shooting late last summer, got used to shooting without gloves..... came to winter, was bloody freezing, wore gloves, & couldn't get used to wearing them whilst shooting for ages. Now I am used to shooting in them, didn't want to go back to shooting without, tried it at the start of this summer.... & it didn't feel right now I was used to the gloves! 2. being a office based pen pusher who has never done a hard days manual work in my life, I found the checkering on the forend chaffes my hands something rotten.
  12. well done gents..... good shooting. shot at caterham with bigweed to day, 68/100..... started well, finished poorly (story of my life!)
  13. .... couldn't resist it! Dave.... I thought as you were so far over to the left that you were letting me pass!!!!
  14. cheeky ******...... did I not tell you about the bad accident I had leading to the burns on my hands? its just I get a little embarrassed.....
  15. cheers Markio..... I know my 61 wasn't exactly memorable..... but I do feel a little left out!!!! was good to meet you all gents. think everyone was fairly normal (well almost everyone). hopefully meet up again soon. Jon
  16. yeah, they do price some carts keenly at West kent - i only use 21g comp x or express.... & they are generally well priced there. Willow farm will become my local at the end of the year as I will be moving........ only shot it the once when I 1st started back end of last year
  17. yep.... agreed. won't be going back...... especially after 2 of the teenage "scorers" who were doing **** all except putting their mate off on one stand ****** me off! shame
  18. Yeah, agreed Cranfield. do you get there much cranfield?
  19. are you a regular there Jimmy? might have to have a wee try of Detling....
  20. no acknowledgement as rayduv says... in my case got a call within 3 weeks of sending off, had an appt within that next week, took 7 days to come through from there. In my dad's case, got a call for appt within 2 weeks, appt within 3-4 days, and licence again around 7 days
  21. yep.... can agree with this one, 5 weeks all in for mine via Kent police. My dad's was even quicker. seem very efficient
  22. Dave only posts now on the how did we get on thread Jinx....! telling us about his lapses of concentration!!! :o
  23. Went to robin hood again today after not having been there for a couple of months. Must say was very disappointed. they have reduced it to a 50 bird from an 80 bird shoot. it wasn't busy, but by reducing the no. of stands, meant quite a lot of waiting to shoot as it bottlenecked somewhat. their still seemed to be enough teenagers to staff 8 stands, so much so that 2 were larking around behind one of the stands that Bigweed & I were shooting - putting their mate off who was scoring. He was marking hits as misses & misses as hits, plus pressing the button to release the birds even before we called pull. doubt I'll be back.... shame, as was a nice little shoot when it was 80 birds & all the scorers had something to do.
