  1. without prejudice - as i am no longer licensed to give advice. not that i was disqualified i changed jobs ie poacher turned game keeper so yes i am still in the industry. 2nd the comment about accountants which may go for some IFAS who dont specialise in mortgages. as to option 3 very few lenders do regulated btl hence i still first option may be preferable.
  2. thanks for the reply, my permission has loads of hazels so thats an option. thought about making my own but metal works not my bag. may lose a thumb in the process.
  3. without prejudice i think you have 3 options: 1) remortgage your home. 2) get a mortgage on the new relatives. 3) a regulated Buy to Let. not wishing to make any assumptions but a remortgage may be preferable in terms of upfront costs plus having relatives living in a BTL may limit your options. by remortgaging your home you may get a free valuation / legal fees depending on the lender. The 3rd option may be more tax efficient however.
  4. I have bought some goose decoys that dont come with with decoy stakes. anyone know somewhere i can buy some or get some made? tried a few local metal workers but its too small for them.
  5. there was an article in sporting gun a few months back.
  6. not sure if anyone has been following the debate on airguns in scotland but it appears that one of the suggestions is that visitors will have to get permits. i hope they dont start thinking about doing this with shotguns. any thoughts? the basc website has more detail on the proposed changes to airguns which will be the start of the rot.
  7. As you are in shorei would use lead therefore RC50 would be my choice no3.
  8. I agree in an ideal world pest control should be free for all with the ability to support the farmer when he needs it most but life is not like that round here. inside the m25 there is a syndicate costing over £1000 to shoot on. admitted its rough shooting but thats what the market dictates. thats why i drive over 565 miles to go wildfowling for a week.
  9. given the rare chance of a shot, the fact I might have to walk a 1km off shore, the liklihood i will be shooting in a hooligun in the dark wth frostbite guns jamming are not my cup of tea hence switching to a o/u 3 1/2 inch chamber next season. rarely need a third shot and that swing clunk swear is not good for the blood pressure.
  10. i was hanging geese for a week in october. pheasants i hang for week when its cold 2 days when its not. pigeons straight in the freezer.
  11. bloody good write up. I am counting the months until I can get back up to scotland. mammoth steel bb in the right place perfect. hevi shot - might as well remortgage the house.
  12. I always find i move from one spot to another and **** law they flight into the spot I have just left. generally i try and find a clearing so that i am not firing 30g of 6 shot through a tree trunk. I like to theorise that the pigeons prefer holly trees etc because of the warmth etc but ultimately its pure guess work. looking back over 20 yrs the best roost shooting i had was in essex in a wood where the pigeons would pour in windy days happy memories and really sporting shots. personally if i only 2hrs shooting left on this earth I would rather have wind like a hooligun, a semi automatic and shed loads of cartridges.
  13. I was lucky to meet a pair wildfowlers earlier this year up on the north east coast of scotland and too fair their punt was a solidly built craft but yours is work of art. bloody impressive stuff.
  14. unfortunately my mates not local ie hes in inverness. guess practise is the answer just get some funny looks from neighbours.
  15. While my mate can call geese right on top of you, I would love to be able to do it myself and despite looking on you tube I really need to watch someone and learn. anyone in london?
  16. I took 5 geese this season, having driven over 560+ miles frankly it would have cheaper to go to the supermarket but lying in the mud waiting for the sun rise beats anything I have ever done. pest control vs wildfowling are poles apart. the ethics of the latter do not come into it as its down to the individual but leaving corpses lying around to rot is shameful. I have met punt gunners this year who have encouraged discretion over shooting near a roost yet at the same time will take more than I might shoot in 10 trips. Not that i dont approve of puntgunning because i actually i respect the risks they take for their sport but not sure we will ever all agree on whats a sensible bag limit.
  17. I travel from london to north east scotland which is roughly 565 miles. why ? because i love it.
  18. I have a 3.5inch chambered hatsan and had the same problem with jams. in the end after various thorough cleaning sesssions and tests with different cartridges i decided to take it in to the local gunsmiths. £60 later problem solved. The magazine had a slight bulge in it which i had tried filing down and was preventing the 2nd cartridge from loading. best of luck
  19. This is a problem i solved by buying an old fashion wood drill and attaching an augar drill bit works a treat everytime but i admit might look a bit odd drilling into the ground.
  20. If I was lucky enough to be in your posistion I would shoot the gun I am most familar with (semi being avoided) and carry as many suitable cartridges as possible. hope that helps
  21. just purchased some 3 1/2 inch mammoth steel cartridges in 1'S and 3's and true to form now feel considerably poorer. its a bloody good thing i live 500+ miles from where i choose to use them as 1 week a year is a dam sight cheaper than someone with proper fowling on their doorstep. very much i will have any left over for next season but that all depends on whether i am in the right place at the right time.
  22. I have not joined any club as my trips north tend to be areas I thought were free to all. It would be a shame if that had to change.
