  1. I reload an 87gr Hornady boat tail, hollow point for a mate of mine,he swears by then and has account for over 1000 deer over the years Im used them years ago and they do work well, you can aslo look at 80gr Bergers there a great accurate bullet I use them for foxing and long range vermin, they would be fine on Roe I have 5 rifles I have reloaded for running on the 80 Bergers, you wont go wrong with them
  2. Saffron Walden?? dont you mean Baldock in hertfordshire
  3. all this ""I zero my rifle 1 inch high at 100 yards" does any of you actually set boards out to see where there actual point of inpact is,because if you havnt your just guessing I have found over the years a varmint caliber is best zeroed at 200 yards then check at 300 to see where the bullet is actually landing even using a ballistic programme you have to do the field test to see if it all matches or again your just guesing
  4. well done, but "spotting" tham at longer distance and shooting them at longer distance is a different matter
  5. I dont kn ow you could buy anyhting by the warrener, that would be a lost worse
  6. once you have been out on long dark nights and shot a few hundred foxes you will then se why a red filter isnt any good, what ever you shoot at you need to be able see it clearly and not just a set of eyes, also you need to be able to see what is around and behind what ever you are shooting at,also you ned to know where its gone if hit and runs, you can loose a fox running accross a field in no time with a red filter on but you do what works for you.everyone is different,I know an old boy who wont shoot without a red filter BUT he dont shoot past 70 yards and thats with a 223,mind you hes a blind as a bat even in day light
  7. looks like you dont need to know what others are using as it seems you have got the job all sorted by the way red filters are rubbish for foxes past 100 yards
  8. what would you call "long distance" I use red for rabbits, amber and change to white for foxes if I have to push the distance past 300 yards
  9. Brain are you sure its beaters elbow and not something else you have been waving up and down you havnt been spending a litle alone time looking at photos of that sexy beater that comes have you
  10. again showing your serious lack of knowledge on what it takes and what is needed for long range shooting, unlike the act of shooting a mole with a 338,far from hypocritical when one act is a calculated shot using the very best equipment and taking the time to know when and where to pull the trigger under the upmost correct of conditions and the other is an act of loonacy go figure
  11. Ive never heard such and excuse in all my life, you crack on mate shooting unsuitable bullets at deer and shooting moles with a 338.god I hope no one from your firearms dept is reading this as to my thoughts on this topic " I havnt got any no more as people like you is going to ruin things for everyone eventually" I would have used stonger words but i wont lower myself to certian people standards I bet your really proud of what you have accomplished, big game hunter
  12. well what do you expect from a person who does such a stupid thing like that, there bound to use an unsuitable bullet, makes you wonder if some people are fit to hold and FAC
  13. its pretty obvious some dont look on the ethics when choosing a bullet to kill an animal or take on board what experts like BASC and the BDS advice to use anyway its been done to death so to speak, untill the wording is changed to the same as Scotland the practice will still go on.
  14. size URO 54 inch 42.5 Cms 108 in green and bown, cargo pockets with strap to hold open, hand warmer pockets on chest,2 small zipped pockets for phones ect,rip off rear carrier with 3 individual compartments for dog working dummies leads or anything else, removeable hood storm collar, draw strings all over, storm velco cuffs,2 zipped internal pockets for wallet, ticket ect, front zip and buttons no rips or burns may need a wash £75 plus post
  15. well Mr Logic Iam man enough to give you an appology over the "legal" side of the dabte as I will accept what BASC has said as at the end of the day they are experts. however I will not accept its correct to use an Amax neither will BASC,ethics and animal welfare come into play we can ALL see the grey area which is being exploited,I will be contacting BASC to try and get the wording changed so there is no grey are to expolit just like in Scotland.
  16. correct I couldnt but HE was told weeks in advance and also by PM the date I was going to be there and HE still didnt turn up but only replied with a silly PM,I thought HE said HE was there all the time, obviously not never mind
  17. heres another good link for reference using Varget 25gr looks the best http://www.accuratereloading.com/223rem.html
  18. vargets pretty good in a 223 have you tried adjusting the seating depth ?? hers a ,link that may give you some ideas but if you dont play bwith the seating depth to find the sweet spot you could spend a lot of money and time changing powders http://www.reloadersnest.com/query_bw.asp?CaliberID=18&BulletWeight=55 it also may not be the powder it could be the bullet,I reload a 223 for someone and found Vit 135 and 52gr Berger shoots for fun
  19. well all I can say it will be safe,Ive seen you try to shoot rabbits
  20. nottinghamshire will give anything to any ragamuffin now get off the net and do some reloading
  21. very sad indeed for the victims,I just wonder what the antis gun brigade is going to throw at us now
  22. wright a letter to Belvoir castle the head keeper mentioned the other day he may be looking for 3 more keepers
  23. I did mine 11 years ago I wouldnt have thought it can go up that much, always best to ask the place you intend on using how much just the test is,Iam sure people who have completed theres would sell or pass on a copy of the manual for a small fee as once you have passed you dont need it anymore
  24. is hasnt got to cost you £300 mate you can do your homework at home and just sit the test,as long as you can hit a 4 inch target at 100 yards max and shoot off sticks at 25 yards you will pass, you can get all you need on line. deer idnetification againisnt hard theres plenty of books and on line photos for you to study I only did the test which was many years ago now it cost me £80 plus £25 registration fee the questions are all mulipul choice and are usually just commone sence the photos are off a projector so not that clear, the safety test again is commone sence you can actually pass it without saying you would shoot at any of the targets set up as its "your" choice to shoot or not,as long as you load and unload the rifle in a safe manner and unload and show its clear to anyone you opass it too to go over any obsticles its pretty straight forward and common sence good luck
