  1. Also just done the extended version. However I got the impression that this was all to do with competative shooting and not for us live quarry types.
  2. Hi, I think Clayman has had a slip of the pen. A 12 bore is 19mm ish. 20 is 16 ish. The pb brush, as he says, should be a little bigger. By the sound of it the brush is going into the larger diameter chamber then getting stuck in the cone. Suspect oversize brush. Hope this helps.
  3. casts-by-fly, Hi, Mate, Re your 1st para., we're both right. Its often a case of off to the pattern plate and suck it and see. Re the 2nd, the safety factor is the barrel proof. Cartridge makers work within defined limits with the usage criteria on the container. It's not their problem if a gun couldn't handle the pressure - it was out of proof.
  4. Spaniels, Many thanks for that; we're hard hit in my area. Printed it off and took it straight to my farmer. First time I've seen him smile in ages.
  5. Hi, again, Had to rush off. Obviously, the makers need to make rounds to suit all chambers. But you're right in what you think. If you can load a given round in 65mm why load it into 70? The answer is that a 70mm round in a 70mm chamber is better suited and will pattern differently from a 65mm one. My guns are old and fixed choke so I use this fact to alter the pattern to suit the quarry species. Good luck.
  6. Hi,Mate, Its largely down to what the maker thinks best in a very competative market. However, another answer is to put a 70mm round into a 65mm (2.5") chambered gun and you'll soon find out the difference! Please don't and I suggest that you check your chamber lenghts if you don't already know. I hope I'm not teaching you to suck eggs, but theres no harm in being safe.
  7. As I understand it, the legal answer to your question is ;- Shotgun, not less than 20 bore. Rifle, not less than 160ft lbs muzzle energy with a bullet weight not less than 38 grains. I must just say, I have no opinion on the matter.
  8. Hi, (again) Couldn't understand where I went wrong in view of nick's answer. I'm 64 so did it the old way. Checked his method out and found the old ways are best. His error was the fact that 1,3 by 1.3 km is actually 1.69 sq km and not the 1.3 sq km that he used. regards
  9. NickB and must have posted within seconds of each other. I meant YOUR answer was spot on.
  10. Hi,All, This whole topic is deteriorating fast. We are in the public domain and are undoubtably being watched. Also any youngsters/newcomers to our sport could be getting the wrong impression. I thought a 243 was a fullbore.
  11. Hi, Various answers have said try a selection of rounds and use the most accurate in your rifle. Good advice no matter whatever type of round you want to use. Unless you have a proper mil. scope (the dots move as you change magnification), I wouldn't use it unless you figure you will not be changing your magnification. Just use the centre cross hairs and aim off. I bought 3 of them and all I did was confuse the hell out of myself - Dont mean not use the scope, just not the dots. Good luck
  12. One point, they will become saturated sooner or later. Check the colour when new and if this changes stick them in a warm oven until the original colour returns.
  13. There is a programme that I use and it's superb. Although it's designed for centre fire, I have found a way of using it for rimfire as well. Two problems though: It's one of those CD programmes which after you'v downloaded it it still requires the CD to be installed to run it. In other words it costs. Second problem is that I can't tell you how much. I was given mine. Its called the Sierra Infinity Suite - Exterior Ballistics Software. My copy has "Five" between Infinity and Suite but I think this is the number of the edition. Sierra (which I'm sure you'll recognise) has a web-site; www.sierrabullets.com
  14. I said it was a can of worms which is why I didn't give any specific range figures. However, as we all know the GENERALLY accepted max range for a 12 bore is 40 yards
  15. Rich, My last didnt come up on the screen as I laid it out. Hope you can make it out. Phil
  16. Rich, Ok for175yd zero:- Bullet Path Wind Drift Bullet Path Wind Drift 25 -.5 .1 200 -1 4.6 50 .3 .3 225 -2.4 5.9 75 .8 .6 250 -4.2 7.4 100 1.1 1.1 275 -6.5 9.1 125 1 1.7 300 -9.1 11 150 .7 2.5 175 0 3.5 Hope it helps. Good shooting. Phil
  17. Rich, I think you're still there. job done. got 3 zero ranges but I think this could be down to personal preference. Going to (try to) E-mail you. Phil
  18. Rich, Ok, culminating point is about 185 yards. Onto it now Phil
  19. Ok, Rich, What different zero ranges would you like and what maximum range? What is the height of the centre-line of your scope above the barrel centre-line (somewhere around 2" perhaps). I'll also factor in a 10mph crosswind for additional info. Phil
  20. Hello, mate, Just like everyone else that group impressed the hell out of me! I just had to have a shufti. My loading tables for your 25gr give 3100fps (using Lee's fiddle factor which he calls an enhancement factor). Because the group showed such potential, I wound up the Sierra Infinity Suite Exterior Ballistics software propgramme. Obviously, mate I don't know what range you normally shoot at or why you zeroed at 100. Perhaps the two are linked or perhaps because the 100 is "standard". The Sierra programme saves a lot of time, money and effort in finding out what happens at various range and it has your particular bullet within the programme. If you'd like an idea of the result of zeroing at different ranges, just say and I'll be happy to do it for you. Alternatively, I won't be offended if you tell me to shove off.
  21. Codling99 Was just closing down when I spotted your answer. Again, thanks, mate
  22. Many thanks, Soulboy, that's going to persuade him to re-load like the rest of us.
  23. Hi, Guys, Trying to do a mate a favour. Could anyone give me a ballpark figure for a good quality 55gr 222 fox round?
