  1. Hi, All I've just worn out my stool, fair wear and tear. Problem is I can't remember from where I got it. All I can recall is that I've had two, one cheap and cheerful which didn't last 5 minutes and the latter a good sturdy one which cost at the time about £25. Can anyone help to identify a supplier? Many thanks in advance
  2. Mick, Thanks for that. When I bought it I did so on its condition, wasn't too fussed as to exactly what is was. However, did speak to ASI and from my description and ser. no. they were able to identify it and gave me the year of manufacture. Cheers
  3. Hi, The importers are ASI, you'll see their adverts. Given the serial number, they will tell you but will probably (definitely?) charge a fee. If it's any help, mine made in 1963 has a 6 figure number, the first three being 241. Hope this helps. Cheers
  4. Lez325, Hi, I'm going to have a rant, mate. With regard to the performance of shotgun choke in the field we, in this country, are sadly let down by our shooting organisations. The only information readily available by and large originates from 1932 and to a degree, this is flawed. A study undertaken a while ago reflected that shotgun external ballistics coincided with a particular well known theory. This new information when coupled with another phenomenon which was first detailed in a work on shotguns published in 1906 (ish) but overlooked in 1932 corrects the discrepancy mentioned above. Has anyone seen this new information in any publication by our organisations in a format that makes sense? No. I'll bet my bottom dollar that if any members care to look at the effective range tables on the web site you identified we'll soon here from them. Your referred site leads on to another which in my opinion is equally unhelpful except it does contain a titbit that might reflect that the author has read other work than Burrard. However, the good news is that something may just change for the better. Lez, if you are interested, I'll put a note on this topic if it happens. Cheers
  5. JohnR and Clubshot, Hi, Many thanks, gives me enough to go on, I'll see what I can find. Cheers
  6. Hi, As you probably know, the best cartridge to use is the one that is the most accurate in YOUR gun. It probably won't be CCI. Cheers
  7. Guys, Help, please. Haven't shot airguns since Noah was a deckhand. Looking for a top end power but non FAC pistol, nothing fancy, accuracy not critical, but reliable. I haven't a clue as to regards the prices or the range available so ,help, please. Thanks in advance.
  8. Palombier, Hi, Thanks, mate. Cheers
  9. Hi, All,, Just out of interest, I don't currently shoot air guns, but am I not right in thinking that the 12ft lbs legislation for air rifles is actually 6ft lbs when applied to air pistols? Cheers
  10. No, for info, it's called central vision. cheers
  11. Hi, True cylinder. Used to shoot boar in Germany and that boring was always recommended for the greatest accuracy. Many slugs (if not all, I'm not certain) are "rifled" for this purpose. Cheers
  12. Hi, Go for the tilt every time. You pays your money and takes your choice, they're all about the same although I prefer the Harris. One point though which I've never checked out (I had a fixed on my 243 which I no longer have), a mate, a former police firearms senior instructor said that you can have accuracy problems when using a tilt on a fullbore. I don't know about this but someone certainly will. Cheers
  13. Hi, Re spacing: don't know, but it's a tad annoying. Have tried a couple of times to give some tables in response to members' questions but it all seems to go to pot. Cheers
  14. Hi, If you don't already wear prescription glasses, get a pair of shooting glasses. Get a bit of sticky tape about 10mm in diameter, if it's really sticky, try to make it less so so that it'll peel off easily and place it in the top left hand corner of the left lens as you look through the glasses. Mount your gun at a "target" and move the tape as necessary to blot out the sight of end of the barrels with your left eye when the gun comes into your shoulder - shut your right eye to check this. It may be necessary to adjust the tape size one way or the other. Once you've got it right for the usual targets, especially high birds, my personal choice is to put the tape on the outside of the lens and Tippex (snowpake) for a pemanent (but removable) patch on the inside of the lens then removing the tape. This method gives you normal vision right up to the time you are just about to pull the trigger. The problem just simply goes away. It goes without saying, don't drive with them on particularly if like me you look over your left shoulder to reverse.
  15. To be fair to "they", you don't have to. One of the biggest single causes of badger deaths is RTAs so if you collect as many of the "casualties" as you can and test them in the lab you will come up with an accurate assessment. This was done in two "hot-spot" areas of the UK.
  16. Hi, What catamong says, but check (a good coach will anyway) your dominant eye. Cheers
  17. Not enough info to answer exactly, but assuming sub-sonic 40gr with zero at 50yds, up hill or downhill (it's the horizontal distance that matters) you'll be 0.73" high. If you can be more specific, only too pleased to help out. Cheers
  18. Hi, All, Waffenbesitzkarte and Jagdschein is what Scotland Rifles is trying to remember.
  19. Got bored and as the info on the CCI site is meaningless, I had a fiddle. Nickbeardo, if you do get some, I have some more realistic trajectory figures if you'd like them. Cheers
  20. Nickbeardo, Hi. Thanks for the CCI website, but sod it! Until they changed the spec., Federal 50 gr were ideal in my 22 WMR and since then I,ve had to use WRS and/or Remmington which are pricey, particularly the RWS, because they are the most accurate. Ran the programme on the CCI 30gr V Max which are specified on their site and they look a bit tasty. Spoke to GMK and they don.t import them - will if my local dealer will order 2000. Fat chance! Good news is, Tungsten, they do import the CB long (0038).
