  1. Depends on the state as to whether its legal or not. A 20mm is classed as a destructive device and you need a licence endorsement which costs around $250 or so. Its more complicated than that of course as the "destructive device" regulations do not apply based on projectile size alone, but also primary purpose of the round. I reckon thats it, in a nutshell. TBH, you dont really have to jump through hoops for a select fire/automatic weapon really, its fairly simple if you have a clean background. You need permission from the ATF and also from the head of the local police. Oh and you have to pay a tax. Other than that, its not an issue for most people, well, except cost as fully automatic guns are rather expensive due to limited supply, I think around $10-15k for a registered fully automatic drop in sear for an M16 for example. Never had the desire to spend the money myself as I'm not sure I see the point of it, but several friends have been through the process and enjoy the rather unusual pass time of fully automatic target practice. Each to their own. The 20mm does look rather painful. Speaking of bigger than .50cal, has anyone seen .959 JDJ? I believe thats a derivative of the 20mm too.....rather erm, sizeable.
  2. Thanks bro, I'll definitely make a point of being there. Try TomV too, he's up for a clay shoot iirc.
  3. ******, the one Sunday I'm not there....wifes birthday so if I try to go shooting I'm liable to get shot myself... Have a good time guys.
  4. Thanks both. I'll have a closer look tonight.
  5. +10. Already had it stripped down and bits fell apart, good job I was OK at meccano as a kid as I got it back together eventually, but this will help for the future. Thank you.
  6. No idea but sounds like a good idea to check it. Thanks mate. Now to figure out how to access it...haha
  7. Hi all, I gave the beretta a good clean and a light oil last night. I stripped each component down and lightly lubed it with wipes which gives a nice thin coat, I thought this would cure it but apparently not. The action stills squeeks a bit when I draw back the bolt. This must be down to lubrication. Now, being a fan of lubrication in the right places (dont say it..).... I was wondering if anyone who owned this model has an idea of the lubrication points and the type of lube to use? Grease tends to be very sticky but will oil alone get rid of such a squeek if its coming from the bolt carrier, forgive my ignorance of the exact terminology. The manual is a little vague, as am I, it seems. Cheers.
  8. I've had lots of ftf with Remmington rimfires (Thunderbolts not sure if they are available in the UK?) in the past too. Out of maybe 1,000 over the course of a week I'd say at least 150 ftf. Switched to CCI at that point and maybe 1 or 2 ftf per 1000 since then, which I think is acceptable. This was all with a 10/22 plinking rifle and also a buckmark pistol so highly doubt its the gun. Then again, never had much luck with Remmington sg cartridges either. Shooting an 1187 auto borrowed from a friend, all it would cycle was Winchester....same size load...rather amusing.
  9. I've been tempted many times to do this. Stories of failing engines (many of them) has put me off 911's completely though. How much did you lose on resale if you only kept it for 6 months...? hehe My favourite car...well only owned normal stuff but I had a Subaru WRX for a while which was fun, kind of miss it.
  10. I have to agree, using an apparently skilled executive as an opportunity for political point scoring is pathetic. Politicians do this sort of thing constantly and it makes me sick. Anyone with half a brain can see it for what it is. I honestly feel sorry for Hester in some respects. Punished and derided for being good at what he does. People just see a figure of £1m, become jealous and hate him for it without any consideration being given as to why he is highly paid. The same people then turn on the television and watch a premiership football match which consists of 22 multi millionaires kicking a ball. If the BBC screen such games, the players are also benefitting from the tax payer but nobody seems to make the connection. The fact is, to run a bank requires many years of experience and knowledge, not to mention intelligence. City salaries are high, people just are not generally aware that in banking £100k+ a year is chicken feed (for the sector), a junior broker with skill can pull that in easily. If he was doing a good job and is one of the best in his field at the highest level, would the tax payer not prefer to reward someone who is actively protecting their investment? What is wrong with giving £1m to someone who is potentially able to make a much larger savings for the tax payer. Speculating, I would suggest his salary of £1.2m and bonus of £1m is a little on the low side relative to his peers. As for Fred Goodwin, well, he is an example of a failure, whereas Hester has been rather successful it seems.
  11. Thats what I was just thinking actually (honest!), also, putting 2 and 2 together and making 5, the other guys are all roughly local to me....Im wondering if the supplier is the same.... Can close this thread here, theres another one in progress as linked above.
  12. I just had exactly the same problem with Steel Game 5's. They are extremely dirty cartridges. I wont be buying them again although I dont see a functional problem as such, but jeez my receiver was covered in **** after only 2 shots. I noticed you're from Yorkshire. Do you mind me asking where you purchased the Hull steel carts? Wondering if its something storage related? Seems a bit of a conincidence. Someone just suggested damp as a potential cause which is what I was just musing over too. Makes sense.
  13. Seems I am not alone... http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/195495-hull-cartridge-steel/ Mod can delete this post if desired. Discussion is continuing in a thread under another section.
  14. There might not be a requirement to use a slip in that particular statute. However, if a shooter caused a member of the public "distress or alarm" by not using a slip, then I am sure there is other legislation which could become applicable. As with anything, always best to err on the side of caution. Rural people for example, may likely be far more relaxed seeing a "country gent" out with his SxS in a green lane than some city dweller in the center of Manchester who goes out for a morning Latte only to be confronted by someone openly carrying a gun and dressed head to toe in DPM. Common sense must prevail.
  15. I took the semi out last night. Fired only two cartridges. Hull Cartridge Steel Game 32g 5's. The gun was due a nice fettle anyway so I stripped it down completely during the evening. What I found inside the barrel and just generally all around the action surprised me. It contained quite a large quantity of what I can only assume is unburned powder. Orange coloured flakes. Since steel shot carts are plastic wad its the only thing it can really be, I think. I'll do a burn test shortly to confirm but I'm 90% sure. Now I know that prior to this evening the barrels were free from any of this material and on prior trips I used different cartridges. So my question is, is this relatively normal for steel cartridges? I've never had it happen before to this extent. Not sure how many grains were in the barrel but it was absolutely filthy. I'd appreciate any pointers. Thanks guys.
  16. Yep, just clean the moderator outside and if it really concerns you/your dad, wear a mask. It does get pretty dirty and obviously you dont want to breathe it in, but its not exactly chernobyl in waiting..Cleaning a moderator near a farm definitely wont result in sheep turning green.
  17. I did this recently too, the 2.5" carts performed much better. The magnums had holes in the pattern which I would consider large (I am no expert however). See my thread below. http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/193761-baikal-stealth-410-w-mod-very-pleased/
  18. I have a Baikal Stealth .410 (made by York Guns) and yes, its quiet with 2.5" Eley Four Longs. Forget the subsonic carts imo, difference is negligible. The biggest issue I'm having is how to mount a lamp/some kind of sight to it. It doesnt come with any sort of attachment which is a pain, but I'm working on something to overcome this. They are sturdy, easy to use and not particularly expensive. Have to say, despite buying a Urika 2 recently, the Baikal is getting more use.... Mine cost £350 from Swillington. Not sure if its the same gun as archiebald said in the post above (hope not! lol). Since you are so local to me, if you PM me, I'll return my mobile number. Get your dad to call me (The OP is only 12 before anyone says anything silly) and I'll bring mine over so you can try it if you like. Of course your dad would need to be there too. HTH PS. archiebald, how did you fit your lamp, or is it seperate?
  19. Impressed. You certainly dont "read" like a 12 year old. Happy shooting! Sorry for minor thread hijack OP.
  20. Which one was that? Must have missed the thread, havent been active so much this past week.
  21. Hi rabbit, not sure of the answer to your question, but I'm from the Wakefield area too. Always nice to see a new local member.
  22. Those are the new in thing. Perfect for making venison mince.
  23. This gun has now sold to the first buyer (hopefully soon to be a PW member). Thank you for your interest.
  24. I am the seller. Not sure why my ID did not link, I think this post will update shortly. Lop is around 15 inches. Right hand cast. However, it is provisionally sold pending a visit tonight. Please PM any interest and I will notify if the sale does not go ahead for some reason with priority given according to time PM received. Cheers guys.
  25. Are you guys talking about Coniston Cold? As in, the hotel with shooting facilities/4x4 etc etc? Someone mentioned it to me recently, said it was a cracking place. Looked a little pricey though.
