The correct dog to get should be a dog that is bred to do the job you require of it. But nowadays the look of the dog seems to be the most important thing for the new gundog owner. Shame really.

It can't be anything to do with oxygen supply. A tug on a slip lead lasts a split second, that little amount of time cannot make a dog faint through lack of oxygen. If it did every dog, and everything that breathes, would faint between breathing in and breathing out every time it drew breath !!!!!!. Get the dog to the vets.

That is exactly what i ment. "sit" means sit untill i tell you to do something else. If the dog is still trying to run in 10 or 20% of the time you are going too fast with the training. Send the dog for its retrieve from your side untill it is 100% steady. Then 5 foot away untill it is 100% steady. Then 10 foot away etc etc.

If you are unsure about the dog staying put at that distance keep the dog closer in and build up the distance gradually.

The CLA is the only one we do these days. We used to get around a good few country fairs but the CLA is by far the biggest and the best. I would rather pay the entrance fee to go there than to go to two or three others that are nowhere near as good. We camp on the CLA campsite purely for convenience,yes it is expensive for camping, but we can walk around all day having a drink or several without worrying about driving back to a cheaper campsite.

Oh I get it now, you are one of those that can give silent, long distance, vocal signals.

If you can control your dog at a distance with vocal and hand signals why do you have to point to your eye ,to let the dog know you are going to give it a command ,for close training?. It sounds plain daft to me.

Did you get the dog direct from rytex?, that's a smart looking thing. Is it doing well?. If i was looking for a cocker rytex is the only kennel i would want one from.
