No way is this a wind up, I did shoot the pigeon at that range, actually is was alittle firther as I had not taken the width of the river into consideration.
Lucky for me otherwayup was there to witness it. If it wasn't for Darren I would not have attempted it, but as i have said I will not try again.
Terry
Terry dont worry mate I regularly shoot birds at that distant flying the ones who are having a pop at you have not got the skill to take birds at that distant ,so either doudt it can be done and also think its cruel to shoot at a woodie at that distance.
But I have seen shooters who are more likely to wound a bird at 30 yards than me at 60/70 yards.
Hopfully we can meet one day cheers OTH

I too had a reasonable day today in heavy mist.

After watching 500 or so birds using a OSR field yesterday had a pop at them this morning.
Was not looking good heavy mist and rain when arrived but still had a go .
Setup in a spot I have shot hundreds over the years,Wind from the N/E .
It was slow going but the lofters where working a treat as it all about forming the real picture.
And over the next month I think with the birds pounding hawthorn berries the shooter who have lofting poles will be the ones bagging the birds.
Total was 34 cheers OTH
And the lofters

I worked for a large agri CO OP in the early 90s and then we use to make roughly 15% which is very low .
I use to get 20% discount and found a old ticket I was paying £76 a 1000s they where the days.
But on the other foot there must be money in it some where anybody who has been to Charlie bulls house and warehouse AKA just cartridges its not small.
Yes he made his money in building but I am sure he would not do it for fun.

ok then i have come to the conclusion that i am the best woodcock shot in the country, seeing as how i find them quite easy to kill, and most here find them incredibly tough to hit! excellent!
And you have the cheek to say I think I am great

oh dear it seems as though oths pigeon shooting inferiority complex is kicking in! how could someone possibly shoot more birds than the "MASTER"! just come out with it, are you accusing ferretman of being full of it?
Steady on
Are you two lovers when one of you have a pop at me on here its not long till the other joins in.
Cheers boys OTH

Might won't to shoot somewhere different ? not as if he said he shot 500 birds
Have many keeper friends that buy days on other shoots , is that odd also
Fair point O great Magman hows your chip lately

Still with bags of 161 and 195 and also 234 within the last month it still seems a odd thing to do in buying a day me thinks
-
Out of intrest you have reported some large bags shot by yourself on here.
Why buy days when clearly you have access to some quality shooting.

Looks like we got quite a few townies on here yes respect all large animals be frightened of them no.
Less face mixing large animals with folk who have little or no knowledge of them them is asking for trouble.
Be it a ramblers on public footpath or a shooter in the field.

Cattle are gentle creatures, you just need to understand a little of their behaviour. They are naturally friendly and inquisitive and usually they are just seeing who you are and what you are doing. People often bring food!
If you run they will chase you. Don't let them surround you, because they can bolt and knock you down. Keep well away from cows with young calves - they naturally protect their young. This is especially so in 'native' breeds, like Highland Cattle, Belted Galloway etc. They don't like dogs, and will chase them, let the dog off it's lead, don't pick it up. It can run faster than cattle can. They get wound up by the smell of blood, also they are attracted to women around the time off their period, especially bulls and cows in heat.
I walk my dog with a stick and if they are bothering you wave it at them, they will run off. I love cattle and have no fear of them. If you want a dangerous animal think horse!
The most sense spoken on the subjest so far and clearly we have alot of members who are not tuned into cattle trails of thought.
Horses are def the most dangerous by a mile.

Beans at that stage of growth will not be eaten by woodies.
Just because you have crops birds like EG OSR and good ground like a mix of woods and arable does not always equal woodies.
So nowt to be baffled about just could be that you have very few woodies.
Also it can be that certain farms attract woodies more in the spring and another farm attracts them more in the winter.
