Very very good bag very rare to shoot such a high number of woodies and rooks at the same time was it drilling or maize stubble.
Kind regards OTH

Any history of the either of the cylinder head gasket work in the past.
Also is the V5 in your name or have you filled out the trade slip and selling this as a trade sale not private sale.

After yesterdays fun I tried the maize stubble but early doors as I had a few hours spare.
Bright clear and gusting wind after the early influx it petered out and packed up by 12 I sure they would have returned but will give them a rest for a week now.
And some good news that the NFU has offered me insurance cheap enough to maybe be able to offer guide days in the future as reading the many posts there is a massive shortage of pigeion shooting I will be able to shoot over a large acreage in oxfordshire .
Total was 43

on a serious note - with it being a new house to us it does make you think twice before pulling the starter cord.....but they are such a nuisance!! anyone who plants trees that close to a house is a fool!
I am glad you understand the safety factor of the work as one bad cut could cost you a hefty roofing repair bill or worst still your live or injury .
I would be intrest to know al4x knowledge of tree felling
good and safe plus insured chainsaw users are hard to find there alot who think they know what they are doing .
And with a hosue so close you really what to know what you are doing as each tree with sap and foilage would weigh 150 200kgs maybe a little more.

never heard of this mumbo jumbo so if you get really scared just pay for me to come up and do it, I'm a lot cheaper than OTH as he wants 1K for a days work I'd do it for half that as I'm generous
Handbag at the ready OTH

It's not too big, it would go in the direction of a landrover, and no conservation orders in the area so it should be fine to cut down....if it wasn't for the ju-ju!
The offending trees on the right.... -
Not too big Gixer the only thing I would say is make a couple of good wood wedges in case you felling cut is wrong and the tree trying to sit back towards your gaff .
I would do the sink cut then cut half way though chain brake on leave the saw in there put the wedge or wedges in .
Cut though to make the hinge and being of the ash family make a sapwood cut before the back cut going from the sink cut edges to the meet the back cut to provent spliting on the final felling also a large bar to put in the back cut to aid direction of fall.
Also always stand to side of the tree never behind .

Your get Will along soon Fing and geoffing soon as it the only way he know how to react saying we have been snowed in and it been failling its ten foot deep .
Kind regards OTH

Hi Gixer
Have you felled trees before also how large is large as you dont want a tree to fallback on your house.
Also have you checked TPO orders or do you live ina conservation area upto 20k per tree if you are and a neigbour splits on you.

After yesterdays good bag on the way home from the garden centre a small detour to one of my smallest farms a mere 200 acres .
I came across a field of drilled wheat with a maize stubble next to it some birds where tracking across it in numbers .
Aquick whizz home load the gear back to the field around 1400hrs some time was getting on but the weather was again perfect good breeze and a clear blue sky.
I had not held back any birds for the whirly but needed not to worry as shot two within mins put the whirly and all hell let loose .
It was a crazy 2 1/2 hrs and even when the farmer turned up to mow the stubble to aid ploughing in they still poured in .
Finnished with 74 .
All the best OTH
Decoy pattern standard horseshoe shape with whirly slighty to the right of the head of the shoe.
My hide under a small ash tree if its a large tree I normally place my hide 20 yards outside to allow to shot birds coming into them. You can see the wheat drilling behind that was also drawing the birds.
And the picture of the finally tally minus the two picked on the way out off the field.

You would have to have OCD to be bothered to count the carts and the shots (that precisely) and manage to get yourself out shooting in any day.
Indeed, I guess you would never manage to get out the front door - you would be too busy closing the door, opening it, washing your hands, closing the door, opening it, washing your hands etc etc etc
As a person who HAS shot large number of birds I think Mungler you have hit the nail on the head in ref to the counting empties .
The only time I have noticed my cartridge to kill ratio is on days when I have only bagged a small number or if I have walk up with say 4 boxes precisely ,but most of the time I have a cartridge bag with a unkown amount so would never know .
I usally just pickup the empties in a carry bag rarely count them back as I rather just enjoy the sport I have had.
I do keep a diary of my bags times weather etc Kind reagrds OTH

No matter what anybody says pigeons dont feed on drilled oilseed rape dont ask me why as they find it on stubbles but struggle to find it when drilled.
The only time to shoot rape is when birds are found in good number this can only esstablisted with recce the field but as a genreal rule of thumb not untill mid november onwards .

You wonder where all the parents are when this happens ,strangley enough in oxfordshire /wiltshire all my bags have been made up off mostly 80% older birds with very few young ones.

After a spell off the woodies due to work I got a call thursday from a farmer to say a field of beans was covered .
I always a bit wary of farmers reports but after crashing ou a quick garden tidy this morning got a few things done .
So got down there around 10 this morning the weather was perfect cloudy and and good wind .
The birds in the mood for dancing and come straight in from the off and I finished at 1500hrs as the birds lost intrested picked 84 and sold 12 off the field to a passer by for a BBQ .
Kind regards OTH
