  1. Sounds like an interesting test to be done at some point. 👍🏼 Leave it with me
  2. Just a bit of fun on a Sunday with my old man. We have an old manual trap a box of clays and away we go some half decent breaks and some horrific misses 🙈😂
  3. Hi guys don’t suppose anyone knows of any good fair game dealers that’d buy pigeons (not necessarily atm during covid lockdown etc I’m meaning longer term for the future) based in Buckinghamshire Aylesbury/Mk areas if anyone sells to a decent one round either of those areas or within a reasonable distance or if one collects from the areas even better! Thanks
  4. By the way guys and especially moderators if I am posting too much on here please let me know as not my intention to spam up the forum just thought there may be folk on here that might not be on youtube but that may appreciate some footage.
  5. Hope you enjoy this video, had a few issues whilst filming such as the first setup being in a no fly zone 🤬 and the fact we had glaring sunlight and a strengthening wind to deal with but made the most of the opportunity I think and have tried to bring to you guys a pigeons view as it approaches and comes into a couple different decoy setups- ive not seen it done before please have a watch and hopefully most will like it and any newbies it might help the learning curve as to a few different approaches to decoy patterns you could try for yourselves. Hope everyone is staying safe. As ever feel free to let me know how you get on viewing this one much appreciated
  6. nice video guys birds were decoying brilliantly on that wind by the looks of it! well done👍
  7. I did think the same actually! not by much for an adult pigeon as I found they still sat on the body of the cradle but just had the neck extended a bit like they would when you see them reaching for aah buds so not necessarily unnatural but not what we would expect to see on a field. However, I haven’t yet cut them down purely because I thought the way they display the neck may show the white flash around the neck of the bird a little more prominently and that this may be the thought behind the design? I also thought about putting a point on them the reason I didn’t is that when pushing the birds onto it I know I’m going to end up being heavy handed on a busy day in a rush and push too hard and end up skewering my hand on it- or at least that’s all I could think of when I was going to do it so I left it! Would be easier for sure and the reduction in height that you’ve done may well be something I do to at least a percentage of the cradles as that would look more like how we see a pigeon on a field for sure (will keep some at full height for the bigger crows). I do like your idea for storing them though! I will get myself a suitable bit of tune for sure👍🏼
  8. Appreciate the comment as ever thanks and I will take note- and as soon as I can get the lockdown hair back to the barbers and under control I shall indeed lose the hat for when I talk to the camera 🙈😂 thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 🙂
  9. Thanks for watching! Glad it could help a little hopefully and all the best for your new sport!
  10. need the volume at the bottom of your youtube up as well as on your device should be ok then👍
  11. Hi guys so due to covid-19 I have been unable to get enough footage of shooting to make put a video together, I have plenty of ideas of future episodes but for now the lockdown has put all of those on hold! Instead I decided to make a walkthrough video of the kit that I use to go decoying with brief description/instruction on each. Ill admit I cant wait to be able to invest in better/proper recording equipment so apologies for the poorer quality particularly wind noise but might still be of use for any new shooters on here wondering how to get started. If it helps anyone or gives you something to watch for a minute or two then its worthwhile I figure! Again excuse the quality oh and the funny looking fella whining on and on 😅 will get to shut up and shoot soon I promise! Stay safe and good shooting!
  12. Had to google "line breeding" haha but no I believe the bitch is from his other completely unrelated stud dog (also a working "fox red" lab from working lines with FTCh throughout his 5 gen pedigree on both sides) so not even remotely related if I have read into the email correctly. Or not at this stage in the breeding lines anyway perhaps its his intention further down the lines to do that, I do not know. I only go off the fact that if I was fortunate enough to have a really good dog one day then I would breed a litter so I could have a pup from it and then as you say sell the excess to good working homes so if he's doing the same that'd give me more confidence that the pups are being bred with the best intentions and with that logic. Wont really know more until I get details of the bitch to be mated or indeed until I meet both breeder and dogs. Im still searching the internet looking for one but this has definitely been my best lead so far into finding a good one. Seems a bit of a minefield tbh and quite daunting but quite lucky to have all you experienced guys on here to quiz with my naïve questions so I 100% thank you all for continuing to help. Shooting and decoying I can offer a bit of experience and perhaps a tiny morsel of knowledge but dogs I have very little of either but id rather ask questions than try to blag it and make a mistake!
  13. Surely only advice is the gun that fits him best and is in his budget? Anyone could say a beretta xxx or a browning xxxx but who knows what will fit your friend. Shop around at gun shops who’ll hopefully help him find a nice used one that’ll fit him properly. That’d be my advice.
  14. The simple reason being- stud dogs are advertised but I have yet to see a bitch be advertised until already in pup and “all pups taken via waiting list”. I agree and I will be needing all health checks and pedigree of the bitch when one is selected before I went ahead with choosing them. Also The owner of the dog in question is also the owner of the potential bitches which are the progeny of his unrelated retired stud dog- this shows me that he is breeding to produce the best working dog puppies he can to keep one of for himself! he is just waiting to see which of his girls comes into season to be mated- all are working dogs and I’d see both mother and father prior to taking the pup. Believe me i will be very vigilant within my knowledge limitation to choose a pup from the best working parentage I can find on both sides. It was just at the present time I have info on the would be sire not the dam and I needed help to understand the hip scores which I will then apply to the mothers scores too.
  15. I actually find foxes will rarely take corvids and if they did there'd likely still be a fair bit of evidence in my experience. round my area there are so many red kites and buzzards (I am talking 100+ circling the mower when they silage) and they seem to love the crows they will eat enough where it is until they can pick it up then take the rest off to favourite trees where they eventually let the wings fall to the floor once they've demolished them and they will clear up 50/70 crows in no time at all! so if you have many of them your way could well be those.
  16. Thank you all for helping me out on this I definitely feel more confident in searching for a pup now and you've raised some great points id never of known so cheers for the help. The breeder/kennels I am looking at getting one from owns both the dam and sire so at the time I could ask to see both parents and hopefully at least the sire work a little bit and make a judgement call of my own off of that along with talking to the breeder and looking at the health certs which I know understand a bit more I feel like ill be giving myself the best chance of a good result! lots to this when your inexperienced!
  17. Aaah yeah I can see that being very true again hadn’t considered that. Tbh I am fortunate enough to be pretty thick skinned to people’s opinions and mostly take no notice, if my dog is doing ok on my mind then I’m happy likewise I’ll be the first to say it’s not gone well if it does something wrong haha. But a very good point all the same! I love weimaraners, would love to see some working glad you get some compliments on them!
  18. Okay didn’t know that but makes sense. I’m guessing that’ll be shown on the vets certificate then. Something I will definitely look into on any potential parent of pup then. Thanks for the advice
  19. Yes I completely agree the premium for what is essentially a shade of a yellow dog is ridiculous and as you said I am actually doing the same trying to find a breeder of them that doesn’t charge this premium and one that is more worried about mating two dogs to get a strong healthy good working pup than the deepest red possible at the cost of those other traits. I have spoken to a couple of people (working Labrador kennels that breed to keep a pup back for themselves) and will see if anything comes of that but will keep scouring all the adds and put the word out as much as I can and basically hope!
  20. You'd hope all guns these days would be a bit more responsible given the ease of finding out about etiquette etc but I bet there are some true horrors still out there!
  21. Thanks for the replies sounds like whilst not ideal it is still well within realms of acceptable so long as the dam will be equal or lower. cheers for enlightening me I find the process of choosing a pup very daunting and just don't want to make a silly mistake! 👍
  22. well done 👍 good shooting some days are just harder than others but least you had some good sport and kept them at bay for the crops sake for a bit!
  23. Christ 😳 that’s some scary thought I’ve never been unfortunate to shoot with anyone like that! I bet you feared for that dog and yourself! Mostly shoot on my own or with my old man. Just started last season getting into a few small (4gun) walked up days as they suit both my idea of sport and my budget but like your dog obviously was I want this one by my side at all times when not sent on a retrieve. Crazy to think how some lads will lose their heads while swinging loaded guns around!
  24. looking up hip scoring and I understand Right/left and you are looking for a balanced low number. Found a Labrador stud dog that has 0:0 elbow score but hips 3/6. I would be looking to have a pup from a litter he'd father in the next couple months would you let this hip score put you off? other than that he looks a great dog, working dog 20+ field trial champs in 5 gens etc etc. so if the dam is a good dog (currently unknown as yet to be chosen) would that be an acceptable hip score to you? Sorry very little dog buying experience her (only had 1 dog this will be my second) thanks
