If you don't take this into account someone, something is going to catch an unintended bullet sooner or later Thats the point ! I never really trusted grown earth as a save background but at that night the combination of a lethal hit and the sound of the bullet in the fence 10m behind it was the evidence that grown earth (at least this one) is a save background which buries the bullet. Just nobody misunderstands me. Because of all the caravans and trailers around and the people who might be walking on the camping side at night I never shoot in the camping area, only form the edge of the park outwards and there is a lot of save space
  2. Fantastic pics ! Very nice indeed.
  3. Hi, thank you for your posts. I am from Germany and here it is forbidden to shoot game with air rifles. No matter what kind and size. I ordered Winchester and waiting for them know. In two cases the bullet just went through the rabbit (chest) and hit a steel fence in the background. The rabbits run for about 50-70m. The bullets from the test shots on the target with lumber-core plywood base could be pealed out of the surface with a key. No one is shooting .22lfb in our region. And shooting is not the point. With the normal .22lfb HV the circular error probable and hits are fine. No, not allowed. In those cases I explained above I shot from a standing position with a bipod, the bullet hit the rabbit in the chest perfectly (was examind afterwards) went through it and what was new to me the bullet must have bounced off the lawn to cause the hit in the fence. I wouldn't have wondered if I would have shot from a lying position. But I was standing and the angle was not to small. http://www.hansa-jagd.de/jagd/741/munition.php I shoot prey since 2001 from hares up to wild boars with no problem. Also shot some rabbits with the normal .22lfb HV. Also no problem. The problem in that night came up by using the rws sub. That was the reason why I asked for a good ammo recommendation
  4. HI old rooster. So was my experiances here in Germany. Don't think there is much difference to the British Social -/ Healthcare system. I will. Regards
  5. Well cleaning the gun is a good point I haven't made for some time. I haven't tried to shoot the RWS sub sonic with an apple. But with a wood plate. And after 45m the bullets hadn't enough power to enter the surface and could be scratched off. About the safe limits: I just shoot the rabbits at the edge of the camping place where there is nothing behind it for more than 200m. So there is no real safety problem
  6. Hi all. Yes, I was asking about an expanding bullet. Hitting is not the problem. Often I have distances less then 30m with a bipod etc. Tested the rounds on several distances. Thats not the problem. Not good enough to have 100% headshots, but fairly enough to have 100% lethal shots in the front section. The few rabbits which decided to join me had shots right through parts of the central nerv system or through the lounges. But all have just one small in and out hole. So the bullet just went through without any major damage. Two things happened: 1. Rabbit had been shot on the lawn, ran away about 300m. Stopped, stumbled, laid down and just died when I reached it. Clean shot through the chest 2. While shooting on a sitting rabbit, the bullet went through the little fellow and caused a sound in the metal fence behind it. So the bullet must have went through the rabbit, was reflected by the grown ground + lawn and hit the fence behind it (about 50m away) Both not very sufficient results in my opinion. First because of the not immediately lethal reaction, second because of the back area hazard. I will try subsonic Winchester and Z Winchester. Thanks for your help !
  7. HI, I have a special problem. We are not allowed to use silencers but "have to" shoot some rabbits in a camping area. Because it is close to a recreation area I would avoid normal or high speed cartridges. On the one hand because of the noise and on the other hand because of the higher energy. Rabbits are always in between 20 to max. 50 m. I first tried .22 lr subsonic by RWS / RUAG. Problem was that most of the bullet didn't open (think it was to slow to open up) and the rabbits were off. Do you know a subsonic cartridge with a fragile bullet ? Would be great !
  8. Well done and Weidmannsheil
  9. Ever thought of making a calender with 12 nice pictures ?
  10. Our love dried peas. If there is any predator around (bird of pray, mink, fox etc.) our ducks will avoid the pond. Tried a trail cam to find out ?
  11. Thanks for the great pictures. Looks like a perfect shoot
  12. HI HDAV, thank you very much for your links. The flat is her husbands and now her property and she is in good health for her age. Thank you for the advice
  13. Hi John and TaxiDriver, thank you very much. We will visit her soon and try to find a good solution with your suggestions. THANKS A LOT
  14. HI, sad story. The husband of good friends in UK died unexpected. His wife, an old lady, is totally shocked. First she hasn't realized the situation but this will change after some time. It is a very sad story. There are no relatives left. Sure some friends but they are also not the youngest ones. At the moment everything is uncertain etc. but I would like to be prepared for everything. I am worried about her living alone in her flat in future without any real help etc. This is where you and your recommendation comes in. Her in Germany we have something like a service which takes care for old, handicapped people etc. They offer different stages of services. 1. Person lifes on its own etc and has just a security system. In the case their twice a day phone call isn't responded or the person sets an alarm they will send help. 2. Person can life on its own but needs help 3 times a day for body care, cooking etc. ... I am sure you have similar services in UK. It would be a great help if you could recommend me reliable / trustworthy societies / organizations which offer such services ! Or do you have other helpful ideas ? I hope you can help me with this. Cheers
  15. Weihei to those two big and pretty foxes !
  16. Well done. Andy what kind of call do you use ?
  17. Weidmannsheil ! Amazing ! It is interesting how the different hunting culturs vary. Here it would be a sacrileg to just shoot dem by rifle without driving them (if there population ist healthy enough)
  18. That is an excellent bag for one day. You hardly will find such hunts in Germany. Maybe in Austria. We have to wear orange colored clothes while hunting because of safety reasons and the "tiger" look seems to work like camo. So the animals doesn't see you so fast. Works in my opinion quite well. The faces are obscured because they should have been working on that day as cranfield said, no, kidding. I would have to ask everybody on the foto for permission (foto rights) , so it is easier for me just to obscure and upload the pictures. Indeed it is a absolutely fantastic atmosphere Use it or loose it. Shame about the development in your countryside ! Very sad. Is there no other possibility to hunt hares ? Like a driven hunt etc ? ? Can you explain that, please ? I wish you good hunting ! B)
