  1. Thanks for the replies. I have recently had keyhole surgery on my right shoulder as a short/medium term alternative to a replacement joint due arthritis. At the moment, however, it is not proving beneficial. I asked my surgeon about shooting off the worn out shoulder and he just said " if it hurts, don't do it". He did point out that a replacement joint does not give as great a range of movement as the original so I might still be limited although without pain. I did try a few off the right shoulder last summer and was quite successful on easy incoming clays after remembering which eye to close! Brad, I'm quite close to you, I live at Laindon and have been beating at Navestock, among others, for the past few years.
  2. Didn't want to hijack casts_by_fly's thread as this may take it off topic a bit. I shoot left handed and am left eye dominant but have a worn out right shoulder joint. This stops me taking the weight of the gun in the forehand and also limits how high I can lift the arm. I am thinking of trying to "change hands" and shoot off my right shoulder with a soft recoil semi-auto. Just wondering if anyone out there has any experience of swapping over. Thanks
  3. Surely whoever purchases the gun needs to hold a certificate with the available slot.
  4. I notice that some of the Stack-on ones say "ready to assemble". That does not sound like fully welded which I understand is a requirement to BS 7558.
  5. Find a shoot to offer to beat on; or pick up if you have a suitable dog. Many shoots offer pigeon or rabbit shooting in lieu of payment for beating.
  6. How do they know the cert hasn't been revoked since the copy was emailed?
  7. I think you may shoot more consistently if you stick to one gun especially when starting out. Good luck whatever you choose to do.
  8. Leave them to me - problem solved.
  9. Am I reading this right - All that gear and three dogs for up to 10 birds?
  10. I thought the standard place for keeping keys was in your sock drawer!
  11. Reading the handbook for the 2010 model with push button drive selection it says the vehicle must not be towed in 2 wheel drive with the rear wheels on the ground and all wheels must be raised if in 4 wheel drive. Assuming the earlier model is the same you will need to tow the car in 2 wheel drive with the rear raised in a spectacle frame. The book also says the steering wheel lock is not strong enough to hold the wheels straight if towed like this. Hope this helps.
  12. Having read through ten pages of this post I am in need of some tablets for my headache.
  13. To buy a chain you just need to quote the number of drive links and whatever type chain it is. Plenty on internet all sold by type and drive link number. Don't waste money on cheap chains, they blunt fast, stretch fast and break. Forget the length in inches - not needed.
  14. I went down the decking route. The noise at night was unbelievable from the rats breeding underneath!
  15. Feed the dog from a metal bowl. Make lots of noise banging the bowl and the dog associates loud noises with a good thing - getting food. Good luck and don't give up. No-one said it was easy but it's so rewarding when it all comes together.
  16. Farm near me has notices: "Trespassers will be prosecuted, Survivors will be Shot"
  17. Looks good. Depending on price they could sell well. I think they need to be relatively cheap as I can't see people spending mega bucks on any sort of bag however good. Working Dog Company do a couple - £35 - £40 range with lots of pockets so that could be your price marker. Good luck.
  18. www.countrykeeper.net available from Countrywide Stores
  19. Several videos on utube showing how to strip them. I understand a common fault is the rear trigger firing both barrel together if the trigger assembly gets dirty.
  20. Teague choke key - fits anything and doesn't burr the slots.
  21. Thanks for the replies. Even if covered I can't see it as an excuse for not having your own insurance.
  22. On beater's day a stray shot from one of the beater's guns accidentally hit a picker-up just below the eye cutting her cheek. No real damage but could have been serious an inch higher. Now I know the beater responsible has no insurance cover of his own. Would the syndicate insurance with BASC cover any claim in this event? Some other shoots I have beaten on insist on anyone shooting having their own cover or you don't shoot anything, anytime, on the land. Thanks
  23. I was told by Essex Police Firearms that a check on the referee is done on the Police National Computer.
  24. You say the dog's become more difficult over the last few weeks. Could she be coming into season? Having said that, time with a good trainer is seldom wasted. Good luck.
