  1. Very good ground and reasonably priced with multiple disciplines on offer. Never very busy and always friendly. It gets my vote.
  2. Agreed, Rishton is a great little ground, pity they've dropped the sportrap though.
  3. HDAV, does my hypothesis that 50:50 suits more deliberate Shooters and 60:40 more instinctive sound right. Don't want to "over think" the subject but the idea just interests me. If you have floated the clay above the barrel for years ala 60:40 moving to 50:50 is tricky as you need to blot out the clay to centre it. Take your point though about the forgiving nature of the pattern.
  4. Do Specsavers do polycarbonate impact resistant lenses or just standard cr90 sunglasses lenses? Important to know.
  5. Yes, EO at Southdown and BO at Fauxdegla in sept.
  6. with an adjustable rib you can still shoot 50:50 ie flat with a figure 8 sight picture. I was interested in PW'ers preferences for flat or higher shooting guns for sporting. As I see it, a gun that shoots 50:50 means you have to cover the bird with the bead, rather than float it on the bead with 60:40 to centre the pattern. Whilst as Ed suggests there is not a lot of difference between the two, I think your actually shooting technique will determine what is best for you, ie if you are an instinctive type shot stick to 60:40 and if you are more of a 'precise' shot 50:50 might be ok, horses for courses I think. Take the point on the pattern plate though as not good for gun fitting.
  7. But you can simulate a going away trap bird on a plate and it is maybe more consistent? If you mount on a mark on the plate from say 25 yds from a gun down position and fire immediately the gun is mounted is that not the same as shooting a going away trap target?
  8. Interesting, tx Ed. I think you are right. Pattern plates can cause all sorts of non-problems.
  9. Would you recommend shooting clays rather than using a pattern plate to check poi? If so, why is that? Tx for replies
  10. Interested to hear views on how shooters prefer POI set-up for sporting, 50:50, 60:40 or other or is the concensus there is no concensus because it does'nt really matter too much?
  11. I knew an Avon and Somerset shooter some while back leap from C class to AA in a season. In my nievity I used to ask him what his secret was was? It turned out that that he routinely doctored his score after every shoot! He was ultimately found out after a selection shoot at wylye and was banned by cpsa for 5 years. Needless to say he has disappeared from the circuit now. Some of you may remember?
  12. Yes, I agree. I shot this stand last summer and what it did for me was to make me shoot the target much earlier. As it happened I think I dropped one and really have no complaints. If you can see it you can shoot it, given you can work out where to shoot it. What I don't like are targets obscured by the sun but everything else is fair game.
  13. Coniston SG near skipton is a good ground, near Kelbrook.
  14. I can't put my finger on why but when I've visited the ground the overall ambience and atmosphere has been poor and unwelcoming. The checking in process is a bit like a supermarket check out, ie give us your money and push off.
  15. Sorry it's Brindle not Brinscall! Any comments, location, timings review etc?
  16. In my opinion the markings (1/4 erc) on chokes are not always a good measure of there patterning performance. I shoot skt and 1/4 through my guerini with guerine chokes and they pattern like LM and M. Ive tried shooting 3/4 and F and it's like shooting an M1 rifle. Try chokes out on a pattern plate and sometimes you will be surprised with what you've got.
  17. No, I know toplands. I am sure it was brinscall just off the m65, some reference on here somewhere? Although I might have got it completely wrong as I know most of the grounds in the area. Perhaps I'll take a drive out one Saturday and listen for the bangs!
  18. Does anyone know of a ground at brinscall near Preston, somehow I seem to recall hearing something about it shooting on a saturday, but I can't remember where I heard the info. If anyone has any idea, location, opening times, reviews I'd be grateful for feedback.
  19. competitions only for me in future. shot catton and scored 86 /100 in B, which would have qualified for some dosh I think. Somehow I got it in my mind that 'open' meant open, ie. no classes at all and hence shot BO! Silly me.
  20. Ive had one about a year now and like it alot. The only issue is that there is great temptation to fiddle with the adjustments to trigger, rib, stock and balance if you have the kinetic balancer installed. I had the balancer but have recently removed. The recoil is very well controlled without the balancer and for me I like the balance abit ahead of the hinge pin and I could not get this right even with the balancer in the most forward position so I took it out. My advice is to set it up then shoot it for 6 months before you change anything. Let me know if I can help further.
  21. Sounds great, anything like this the other side of the border?
