  1. We lost a few poults in the first couple of weeks, but once the poults get to a certain size, the buzzards lose interest
  2. This is an original factory fitted laminate stock, which has been pillar bedded by Riflecraft, using aluminium pillars. Its in very good condition but has been used, so there are some very minor marks, but nothing serious. Came off a 77/17 HMR but will also fit the 77/22 WMR. £55 posted.
  3. These are sold subject to the usual. One each to: BRYAN3 crossy 666 Babs2020 I will PM you shortly to arrange payment.
  4. I have 3 genuine Ruger 9 round magazines for sale, they are used but in good condition. They will fit the Ruger 77/17 HMR or the 77/22 WMR. £17 each posted, or £45 for all 3.
  5. We did exactly the same a few seasons ago, the only difference is you shot 10% of your partridges, we didn't quite get in to double figures.....
  6. I would feed them with top hat or pan feeders and use wheat or one of the game holding mixes, but I think you will struggle to hold them if you haven't got decent cover crops, especially if you have buzzards etc in your area.
  7. Yes we use a bit of kibbled maize, I haven't got any pics, but it is very dusty. We normally use it through a spinner or hand feed it mixed with wheat later in the season. If there is any left at the end of the season I put it in the normal spring feeders, and it goes through fine. I have noticed it can go a bit lumpy if it gets damp, but as long as your feeders are water proof it should be ok. Pheasants love it, but I have read that too much maize can make them fat, which doesn't help their flying ability.
  8. They are, but only in 32g 4's, so not really a goose cartridge
  9. None of this is aimed specifically at shoots, we are talking about standard tax rules that apply to all income from any type of work, income from beating has always been taxable. I have been on quite a few commercial shoots, and none of them have ever asked for cash to pay the beaters. The only cash usually required is a tip for the keeper. Syndicate shoots often ask the guns for cash for the beaters, and I agree with what you say about traceability. The likelihood of a beater who beats on one shoot 8 times a season for £20 a time is unlikely to get caught out. There are other beaters that are out several times a week, who can earn a tidy sum over the course of a season. These people are much more likely to come to the attention of HMRC.
  10. The untaxed payment is fine, there are special rules that allow shoots to pay beaters without deducting tax. As you say, the payment is taxable and needs to be declared. Assuming you are a beater, you can't claim mileage for your journey from home to the shoot, but if you do any mileage at the shoot in your own vehicle, you can be paid 40p per mile tax free. You can't claim expenses for use of a dog either, so if you don't do any genuine mileage, the payment will still be taxable. Just calling a payment "expenses" doesn't make it tax free The rules for picker up's are different as they can genuinely claim to be self employed. The payment from the shoot is still taxable, but they are able to offset more expenses against their income.
  11. HMRC's long standing view is that beaters are generally employees, due to the working relationship between the shoot/gamekeeper and the beater. Re the raffle tickets, money from the tooth fairy isn't taxable, perhaps you could get her to deliver the "prizes"........
  12. Chris at UK Gunworks built my .204 for me on a second hand Sako 75 action, but he also does full custom builds if that's what you are looking for. http://www.ukgunworks.co.uk/ He does a really good job and he is local to me. The price was reasonable too
  13. If your ordering and delivery processes have been approved by the police, you should make more of it. Get a how to order page on your website etc. I think it would be a good selling point?
  14. What have you done about the legal side of selling cartridges directly, but not face to face? I know it was a problem for Just Cartridges when they started and I believe it took a bit of sorting out. There is a thread on here about it: http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/245488-rules-on-storage-access-to-cartridges/page-3?hl=%2Bcharles+%2Bbull&do=findComment&comment=2154796 Post #44 and onwards are the most relevant.
  15. Is this how you get paid for your day jobs? If these idea's actually worked, everyone would be paid this way, tax free.............. If this thread was about employees in any other industry not declaring income and not paying tax, I'm sure the reply's would be very different.
  16. Yes, I use it. Over a period of time I think it will help prove the benefits of shooting, and will show the conservation efforts that shoots of all sizes and types put in. The more people that use it, the more accurate and useful the data will be.
  17. That's fine, but I would suggest that the reasons you prefer walked up grouse are completely different to the reasons of the RSPB spokesman?
  18. But the reality is, without driven grouse shooting and the money it generates, there wouldn't be any walked up grouse shooting either. No one could afford to manage the moors in the way they are now on the back of the income from walked up days.
  19. It doesn't matter what you call it, it's all taxable income in the eyes of HMRC.
  20. Try these people: http://www.syconproducts.co.uk/Products/Products.aspx?Category=Nozzels-accessories/Pans Don't but the widely available cheap Chinese ones, the welds break, dumping the contents of the feeder on the floor......
  21. £4.20 would be about the going rate for partridges? You should be able to get pheasants for £3.50 or less, especially at this time of year.
  22. Yes, you should still be able to buy poults. Have a look in the back of the Shooting Times, or you may be able to find some here: http://www.gunsonpegs.com/shooting/classified/available/game_birds-poults.php I paid £3.45 each for pheasants this year, but they are normally a bit cheaper for later poults
