  1. Had to share a pic of this target shot with my new tikka T3 lite in 6.5x55. Its had 30 odd shots through it so far and the groups seem to be getting smaller all the time, looking forward to reloading when my bullets arrive. 5 shot group shot with winchester 140gr SP at 100 yards.
  2. Myself and scarvister from off here are heading out to the same place again, going to have a good walk around with the .22's, have a break, then have a go with the ferrets. Hopefully it will be a decent day, the forecast isn't looking too bad.
  3. One of the guys that I play darts with asked me to come up to his and clear up some rabbits for him, so I went up the other night. The place was heaving with rabbits. I pulled up out side his byre and shot 12 rabbits without moving from the spot. He said to come for a look with him on the quad to get an idea of the lay of the land and to see how many rabbits there was. After 45 minutes I had shot 41 rabbits. I went for a look last night on my way home from work, I didn't have long as my tea would be ready at half 5. This time I was just walking around and managed 30 rabbits in just over half an hour. I will have to get a decent lamp and have a right go at them from the quad as they are used to the quad zooming around all the time. Its just a shame that there is no market for them up here.
  4. Its probably easier to do on the maxus but its easily enough done with the SX3.
  5. We used to have quite a few different breeds of hens and the one I liked the most was the light sussex, good layers, good sized eggs and good natured. I have been thinking about getting hens again and if I do it would be light sussex.
  6. Can I ask what the loading/unloading difference is between the SX3 and the maxus?
  7. I tried a target out at 200 yards and things did open up to just under 2" but there was a bit of cross wind and I feel I could have done better. I am happy with that for now.
  8. I have found a load for my hornet after some disappointing results up till now. I tried all the factory ammo I could get my hands on to try and find out how the rifle performed but none were looking too good, the best being sellier and bellot giving me groups of 1 1/2" at best. After trying a few homeloads and not bettering the sellier and bellot I was tempted to give up. I tried different brass, different bullets, different primers and different powders but it all came together yesterday with winchester brass, winchester SR primers, 12.4gr lil gun and 35gr v-max which gave me a nice 5 shot cluster which measured just under 1/2" @100 yards. I had the v-max in the cupboard but was reluctant to try them as the factory 35gr v-max was horrendous. One thing that IMO made an improvement was crimping with a lee factory crimp die. Has anyone else had trouble loading for the hornet? Another thing I wondered about but didn't try was pistol primers, does anyone on here use pistol primers for the hornet?
  9. Can I ask what bullet 130gr bullet you are using?
  10. I dont own a 270 but I have shot with one. The one I used had a moderator on it and was a pleasure to shoot compared to my 30-06 with no mod and I would imagine the recoil for both would be similar. Hope this helps.
  11. Just had a quick look on guntrader and there is two nice looking AYA 28's that is within your budget and a pretty John MacNab over and under. If it was me I would go AYA.
  12. That's the same as what I had, I thought it was a great gun and I shot a lot of rabbits with it.
  13. I used to have a .22/.410 combo which was great for taking walkabout. I sold it to fund another gun, wish I hadn't!!!
  14. We use layout blinds for decoying geese when there is no cover to use, They work great but nothing will beat natural cover.
  15. Olicks (ling) is one of my favourite fish, especially good when its boiled and mixed up with the livers to make what we call stap
  16. I wouldn't say it has had hefty knocks but at the same time its not been wrapped in cotton wool, the gun sees a lot of use. Never lost zero in the time I have had it which is nearly 3 years.
  17. I have warne mounts on my a-bolt, havnt had any problems with them.
  18. It came a beautiful day yesterday and I got the tikka set up and run in, so far so good. I only had winchester 140gr SP to try but they were giving a nice 1" groups at 100. I got some PPU 139gr SP last night to try, hopefully be a nice night through the week to have a crack with them. So far PPU bullets work best out of all the factory ammo I have tried through the 30-06, .223 and the hornet, maybe the tikka will be the same.
  19. Thanks for the advise guys. I have been having a look at the gen iv mod on the riflecraft web page and thinking that might be the one to go for. It doesn't add much length and is pretty light. Any other pros and cons for this mod. The rifle wont be used a lot, it will be a bit like my 30-06, after the initial excitement it will only get a lucky 40-50 rounds through it a year.
  20. Just got back from picking up my new tikka T3 lite in 6.5x55. Fingers crossed it will be a nice weekend for me to run in the barrel and get it zeroed. Got it for a good price too, £700 and 60 winchester 140gr SP thrown in . Just need to make up my mind on which mod to put on it . Any suggestions.
  21. Could I have the lee dies and 180 sako brass. Do you use paypal?
  22. Thanks for the replies guys. I will be ordering from the states as it is a heck of a lot cheaper than ordering from down on the mainland. I ordered dies for the hornet a few weeks ago and got stung for tax and it was still cheaper than anything I could get new from the mainland. thanks again. Aister.
  23. Looks good, I think I will need to give smoking a try this year. Shame about the lost bird but it does happen, anyone that shoots enough will lose the odd bird.
