  3. I'm not against it per se but when we already have civil partnerships, we are essentially looking at spending millions of pounds to change a word on a Certificate. I was asked to sign the petition by a gay friend and I told him that whilst I have no issue with it and see no reason why anyone cant marry anyone else in this day and age, I do object to the expense of rewriting 200 years of civil marriage law (1837 Registration act bought in Civil i.e non-religious marriage and compulsory registration of birth and deaths) at a time of economic instability and also that people who are gay/lesbian/transsexual/bi etc.etc. can already have a legally recognised partnership, are treated equally (and sometimes favourably) and have all the rights as anyone else in this country where as there are people all around the world who are abused, imprisoned or killed for their sexuality. Surely the "gay community" would be better using their campaign strength to promote this issue and help protect the rights of gay people world wide than pressuring the Government into using up already stretched resources to pay teams of solicitors to rewrite volumes and volumes and volumes of established law. This is why "gay marriage" was bought in as civil partnership in the first place, avoiding the complications and expense of the above. If Civil Partnership is now scrapped, that's another few million down the drain to appease a minority who would never support the bulk of politicians in the current coalition anyway. The Church is also right to say that if "marriage" as a legal term will apply to any recognised partnership, they could well come under intense pressure from our good friends in Europe for "discriminating" policies i.e. only allowing men and woman to marry in a religious building. That's my 2p anyway! D
  4. I think well said by all, I can only further agree that in my experience (being an office boy who has worked in lots of different offices with what must be 100's of people now)very very few people are actually "anti" most are simply unaware of the facts, uninterested or occasionally, usually due to an ear bashing from a proper anti, misinformed. This is mainly in the City centre and it's surprising how often people are interested and have fond memories of plinking with an air rifle or family members shooting when they were kids. I've even had people ask me for the odd rabbit or two! It is definitely down to the negative attitude of the media, who very, very, very rarely portray shooting in a positive light! I can think of only one article in recent times, an interview in the metro with a female Olympic shooter, that did so. Even then the actual subject of her sport was mentioned very little, if I recall correctly not even the discipline was mentioned. The Ban Everything Brigade are ever vocal and seem to receive far more of a spotlight than our hard working field-sports organisations and the everyday shooter who just wants to enjoy his sport, whether that's target shooting with an air rifle or big game shooting! This is why it is important to talk about shooting, I was tight lipped when I first started but I gradually introduced the subject, mentioning a spot of backyard plinking etc. and have now taken office bods just like me to my local club and they have really enjoyed it! Keep shooting folks and keep talking! D

  11. Right Folks, I have been given an old 2003ish PC, basic spec running Windows XP, as you would expect it was running like crud so I re-installed windows and all fine apart from the wifi. An IEEE 802.11g MINI PCI Model(XG-601M)wireless card is installed and I thought I had backed up the driver for it along with all the rest but I missed it and having spent 5 hours looking for it, (it's not on the manufacturers website, Medion to be precise) I can't find it anywhere! So I put it to the PW massive, any ideas where I can get the blinkin thing? All suggestions considered... D

  13. Wasn't a beaver captured in Perthshire a few years back? And following a trial re-introduction somewhere, more have been illegally released elsewhere? I'm impressed at the "cuts" too, look almost like hatchet marks!
  14. Personally - I didn't shoot in school but was interested in country sports (I live in a small village, school was in nearest town) and during discussions on the Hunting Ban (which was being hammered through at the time) rural access (right to roam, access to water ways etc.) it was clear that more than a handful of the teachers were anti-field sports and encouraged my fellow pupils to take on their views. More than once, (as a verbose and strong minded 15-16 year old) I was the sole voice arguing for field sports and pest control and against the hunting ban. That includes in many cases the class teacher. HAD I applied for my SGC at the time, I would have been horrified to think that any of those teachers would have been asked for their opinion and even if it wasnt given to an out and out anti, a careless "Oh I've been asked to sign this for Joe Bloggs" in the staff room and those anti staff could have been ear-bending like a parliamentary lobbyist! I see no reason why you shouldn't ask a particular teacher to countersign for a child but that is your call to make based on the attitude of the teacher and their relationship with the child. I do not think it is right that the Police should insist that the school is involved. Knowing a few teachers/teaching assistants both primary and secondary, they really do gossip about the kids they teach! Just my pennyworth, D

I love it when you talk dirty They are an inexpensive route to a full power air weapon, I am NOT remotely technical/hands on but with the advice of guys like Biffo I stripped mine for tuning in under an hour on Monday night. My only warning: once you start playing with these guns and realise the potential, it gets very addictive! ATB D
