  1. I get them every year on my sprouts at my allotment. Even putting nets over the plants don't stop them. The thing is I wouldn't be very popular if I started to blast away at them with my semi auto and I can't even use my air rifle! Just have to put plastic bags on sticks to try and keep them away
  2. I think you will find they were Hawthorn berries and not Cherries. Cherries are an early summer crop and get stripped in days you would not find them this time of the year.
  3. Disappointing day I am afraid. 23 pigeon between 2 of us. 500+ on the field when we arrived but they never came back! Hey ho that's pigeon shooting at this time of the year!!
  4. Out ferreting yesterday on one of our farms. We have been watching 2 fields of rape for weeks now and not seen a single pigeon on it, until yesterday. 200+ piling on to it even while we were ferreting. Going to give it a go tomorrow, fingers crossed.
  5. Is 80 the oldest pigeon shooter then as per my lost post?????
  6. We get 30p for large pigeons but our game dealer sorts through them and if there are any squabs, we get less for them!
  7. Shot my biggest bag ever using 2 magnets. Had them about 20 metres apart in front of me with decoys out to the sides and a flapper in the middle. Has to be said I could drive to where I was setting up. The other problem is the amount of batteries you have to keep charging up, especially if using a flapper as well.
  8. The old boy i go with has just celebrated his 80th birthday. Fortunately like some others we can drive to most places so this saves a lot of walking. However the old boy doesn't have a dog. so if he wings a bird I often see him running across the field after it (we always set up in different hides). We also still go out ferreting and have 350 acres of land we have the sole shooting rights for. At the moment we are rough shooting that every 2 weeks for the pheasants and partridges. I do most of the walking and try and put a few birds over him so he gets a few shots most days. I am 52 now and hope I am still shooting at 80 too!
  9. Well shot on the last drive! keep the vids coming.
  10. Enjoyed both videos thanks. I dont think you have quite mastered bleeping out the swearing but I think i would be the same if i were shooting like that What was his final shot to kill ratio?
  11. You are lucky Cranfield round here they spread the fields with HUMAN SEWAGE and boy does that stink!!!
  12. I have had mine for 2 weeks now and been out twice. Sadly on both occasions there was hardly any pigeons about. This did mean I could sit back and enjoy the scenery. The chair is very good, especially having a back on it. The spin on the seat is also excellent, far better than my spin top bucket (which barely spins now). I also really rate the adjustable legs which is great on uneven ground, though it is quite fiddly pressing the buttons in and trying to line them up with the holes. I find the seat pad is comfortable enough even after a 7 hour session. All in all i would recommend this seat, especially if sitting on a bucket all day gives you backache. CW
  13. I have a great mental image of you shooting, operating the helicopter and controlling Bob at the same time. I am sure Bryn Parry could do a great caricature of you doing so!!!
  14. The last sentence- not the bit about sterilizing ....!
  15. How much would that cost them? What with the cost of seed, Diesel, fertilizer, slug pellets and labour for 500 acres it must mount up a bit!
  16. All 500 acres were Wheat which was combined in early August. They cut it, bailed and drilled it with rape within 24 hours, we were there when they did it. They then spread slug pellets over the lot. It came well to start with but they were very late in spraying of the weeds (about 4 weeks ago) and there was a good covering of black grass. It was definitely not mustard or charlock. My only thought was that they used the wrong spray and accidentally spray of the Rape. Could this happen?
  17. Went out to check a farm with about 500 acres of rape on it. Found out the farmer has killed off the lot. One or two fields had a lot of black grass in it but other fields just had the normal amount of weed cover. The rape was about 4" high and there was a good plant across most fields. Now he has started to cultivate the fields again. Any ideas why he would of done this. It must of cost him a fortune in seed, fuel, labour etc?
  18. Loved all the videos this season. You have really progressed with the additional cameras.Real shame you have had so many problems with the head cam. I wish i had so many birds over me at the beginning of the season let alone the end! Look forward to the pigeon footage.
  19. There's one just off Junction 16 of the M1. It is called Garrets and is situated in the village of Flore, Northants. Not quite Leicestershire but close to the border if you are based in South Leicestershire. He is currently paying 30p per Pigeon.
  20. Great shooting with both camera and gun. Keep them coming!
