  1. Here is the story:- http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics...er-mauling.html It gives me no pleasure whatsoever to point out that this was not an Akita. Recently, we had a very similar thread, which ended up, as they always do, with the same conclusion. Idiots who don't control their dogs properly put lives at risk. Jail them, ban them from owning dogs, get a brain for them - because they clearly don't possess one. This time it was a Rottweiller, so a knee jerk reaction would be to place Rotties on the list of dangerous dogs. When will people realise that all dogs are potentially dangerous? The size of the dog is usually a favourite argument, but to a small child they are all big. How many people would tangle with a rat which was the size of a Collie? I suspect very few. Because they are our pets, people start excusing their own breed of dog, whilst sticking the boot into other breeds. I have no doubt that this thread will go down the usual road. Imperfection - I was typing my post at the same time - your's puts it more succinctly.
  2. Whatever barrel length - get second hand.
  3. Another vote for John Beswick. Top bloke for a very long time.
  4. Proper gun - well made, very durable, good resale value.
  5. I would think twice before buying a relatively obscure make. Spares might be a future problem and resale value. If it is a cheapie - fair enough, but you would do well to look at Lanber - cheapish and decent - with Browning / Miroku / Beretta - dearer, but good resale value.
  6. One of the better threads I have come across. Thanks.
  7. garden gun - your pricing seems to be almost double the actual cost. Baikal do not cost £700. For that money, you could get a good Miroku or Beretta - both of which would be excellent. Have a look around - try different guns. If you go clay shooting, most clubs have someone who will show you the ropes and let you try different guns. Find a decent one which fits you. Good luck.
  8. It is not the 101 Winchester successor - made in Japan model, but an Italian gun - made by Marocchi from memory.
  9. Good luck and I look forward to any report, with photos.
  10. I replaced a couple of firing pins for a mate, over the weekend, in a Browning XS. Removal of the stock was a pain, as he didn't have the long hex key and there is an aluminium washer wedged halfway down inside the stock. This is presumably to guide the key, but it is more trouble than it is worth. I had to remove his adjustable stock mechanism and knock the washer out from the back. I then used a hex socket, from memory - 6 mm. I have decided to make a key by welding an Allen key to the end of a rod, with a T piece for purchase. I found a spare 5mm stock key, but can't remember what it fits. To save me taking off the recoil pads, does anyone know what size hex is used in Browning / Miroku and Beretta 682 series? Thanks. PS - is there a quick way of removing the aluminium washers.
  11. Shawforth or Whitworth. Sure there is no prize?
  12. libs - I have been following the thread - out of interest. Very nice job on your stock and forend.
  13. M. I read the text but didn't look at the poster. I nearly fell off my chair - dangerous at my age - when I re-read it.
  14. Blaser F3. M. There is someone else who can tell the difference. He wasn't very scientific - held them in his hand to compare weight and gun balance felt different and then lighter. Nice find though.

    miroku

What model is it? How old, what sort of condition and barrel length please. I have a shooting friend who has a Beretta Teknys Gold Auto - very little used - who is looking for an O/U.
  16. What choke is it - 1/4, 1/2
  17. Try your local gunsmith. Many have these from years ago - secondhand and cheap. I paid £10 per choke about two years ago, from Kelbrook. Bamfords at Eccleston or Malmo would be good bets.
  18. Bumped into a friend at shooting this morning, who now shoots with a Miroku Grade 5 Trap Gun. In 2006, he bought a new Krieghoff. He got rid after 43 visits to have it repaired - misfire, not firing bottom barrel, not firing any barrel, plus a lot more. That said, he got more than he paid for it less than a couple of years later. Prices have rocketed from £4k to nearer £10k for that gun. He said he later came across the same gun - it was distinctive, as it had some engraving to cover up a mark on the action - done at the factory. The new owner boasted about the Krieghoff and said that one day my friend might be able to move up from a Miroku to an expensive Krieghoff. He suggested it was something he should aspire to. He got put straight, but was not very graceful about being pulled. I should really have asked his name, as I thought I might know it already. What is it with some owners of expensive guns? Good luck to them - each to his own, but they do not have to stuff it down your throat.
  19. An appropriate summing up. Perhaps we should close the thread.
  20. UK Poacher - there is no skirting around this horrific attack. I think the paper has gone over the top with dangerous dogs - it usually is a terrier or Rotty - but what was the owner thinking of. A dog he had owned for a couple of days, chained to a wall - but lets anyone near it. Irresponsible does not do it justice. I can't believe the dog has not already been put down and the owners need banning from owning any dog. The comments under the article are well balanced - with no witch hunt. Can I say - thanks. It was clearly not an article that Akita owners would relish, but you just posted the link without comment. It made your point better than some of the diatribes we have had.
  21. Good looking dog with excellent proportion. Looks a little character into the bargain. Good luck with him.
  22. Phil - thanks for the detailed reply. The pad is a Perazzi original according to the logo. My stock looks identical to your right hand side (as you look at the photo) - the opposite side of mine is cut out in the same manner as the right. Both sides look identical. There are letters, which appear to be punched into the wood. On the bottom left is a "D". On the top left it appears to have "91". Measurement at top at bottom appears to be 19mm.
  23. Would these assist in saying which type it is?
  24. I will be interested in any replies, as I have a spare stock for an MX12. I am told that they fit the MX2000.
