  1. When I was a kid, Q was a letter followed by U. Nowadays the common spelling of Koran seems to be Q'ran or something similar. And for this fellow, why not Katada? Does spelling it with a Q make it sound any different?
  2. Then read it again ... The question does not imply that BASC training would be vulnerable, but questions whether the depth and scope of it is sufficient.
  3. I'm with the mod squad on this one. Being able to post in the racist, sexist, homophobic and anti-moslem forums without having to worry about the deleterious effects of swearing is one of the main attractions of the Off-Topic section here.
  4. Night Master NM800. Nice but not at the lower end of the market.
  5. Section 90 Police Act 1996 Impersonation, etc. (1)Any person who with intent to deceive impersonates a member of a police force or special constable, or makes any statement or does any act calculated falsely to suggest that he is such a member or constable, shall be guilty of an offence and liable on summary conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale, or to both.
  6. Ex-military here. Is it so easy to buy out and rename a dedication to those who served? And who received benefits/cash, etc. in the process of 'facilitating' this disgrace, I wonder? You will have to go a long way to find any service personnel, current or ex-, who agree with this deal, especially when it involves a country where democracy and civil rights are treated with such scorn.
  7. Put the in a slow cooker for a stew, with the usual veggies, stock, seasoning, herbs, plus a papaya. Don't peel the papaya, but cut it in half and remove the black seeds. This works well for any tough meat and I'm quite partial to the resulting taste of the stew but I imagine it could be a little sweet for some. Try it before you dismiss it.
  8. If you don't want to look like an American tourist (rather than a generic tourist), pretend you are Canadian .... all you have to do is learn to say "aboot" for "about" and lie about where you come from. Principally it will relieve you of having to defend US foreign policy in casual conversation, whether you agree with said policy or not. Don't speak loudly in public. There are the few chavs here who always shoot their mouths off because they didn't get a decent upbringing, but generally, the British keep their conversations private and don't have a pathalogical need to draw attention to themselves. And ... in conversation with the locals, remember that in the UK, World War I started in 1914, not 1917 and World War II started in 1939, not 1941.
  9. Welcome, Steve, from Oxford ... just down the road a few clicks.
  10. It says From: Bradford on the left-hand side. ;-)
  11. We should pick our fights carefully and take some time to consider the consequences. All our actions affect both us and the people and environment that surround us.
  12. Edit: Original message redundant.
  13. But not usually allowed on the same message board ... Parallel topics can cause confusion. I hope you find the dog.
  14. The house rules mention "objectionable messages" but there is no stated definitiion here so it will be up to the mod squad to decide. In my experience, that's the way most message boards are run. Some hobby boards proscribe religion and politics, for example, but this board doesn't. The name on the banner should be a good guide as to what is permitted; other topics/posts are permitted at the will and pleasure of those who run the board. What does hack people off is inconsistency in mod-squad actions. By the way, this topic would not last long on some message boards as it would be seen as questioning the moderator's action and would be deleted. It's not difficult to discuss these issues with the mod squad on the back channel. Moderating a message board is not always easy, and most mods do not take kindly to being called out in public. Apart from any other considerations, those exchanges can be long and drawn out ... and you can't please everybody.
  15. See http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1980/66/section/161 Highways Act 1980, Chapter 66, Section 161 161 Penalties for causing certain kinds of danger or annoyance.... (1) ... (2)If a person without lawful authority or excuse— (a) ... (b)discharges any firearm or firework within 50 feet of the centre of such a highway, and in consequence a user of the highway is injured, interrupted or endangered, that person is guilty of an offence and liable to a fine not exceeding level 3 on the standard scale. Some people quote the law but leave out the part about "...injured, interrupted or endangered..."
  16. http://www.royalmail...rohibited-goods Scroll down to the section on "Weapons"... "... low-powered airguns are allowed ..."
  17. Looking at the Cvlife LXGD Ultra Bright Green Laser Sight which is available on Amazon for about £32 . Does anyone have one or has anyone used one? Could you post a review ... or at least some brief comments, if you don't have much time. :-) TIA
  18. Reporting only as I find, I'm a bit surprised to read your comment about Oxford Gun Company, MJ. The HW95 I bought from them compared very reasonably to what I could find elsewhere. Shirley is very thorough with information about guns and gear. I'm in South Oxford too, MJ - just a couple of miles outside eat Oxford. If you decide to venture out of your garden with your new air rifle, and care to meet up, send me a PM.
  19. Deal done. Thanks for your reply, Al, but I've just done a deal with another member who contacted me first.
  20. Looking to save a few ££ on a Combro CB-625 Mk4 Chronograph. They are currently selling new for around 50 quid, so I'll buy a used one in good condition for less than that, if anyone has one they don't need.
  21. Thank you to all who replied to my wanted post. I bought an HW95.
  22. Sorry ... a slip of the brain. Not 87K but 97K or similar. Thanks for replies so far.
