  1. Thanks mate. Aye it was the Wensleydale one I heard about it from Kevin the keeper at Jervaux.
  2. Anyone know of a clay league(s) in N.Yorks or Durham areas, I think they are made up of pub teams ?
  3. Could you please qualify your above statement, thanks.
  4. There's a big acreage of peas near Thrapston.
  5. That's some shooting pigeon controller
  6. Air rifles were used, with great effect and stealth, by snipers of both sides during the first world war. The british versions were underlever, spring powered of both .177 and .22 calibre with varying levels of muzzle velocity.
  7. Absolutely fine, I had to sew a button on my chinos this avo and I made such a good job I think I might start at the embroidery class in't local college, an yone care to enroll with me?
  8. ...'scuse me, I think you've missed your way, this forum is 'PIGEON SHOOTING' sub Talk from the Field. Might I suggest you go to something like www.rivercottage.net where there is a discussion board and like minded people.
  9. Look, wing-shooting with a shot gun is a skill which has to be learned, very few have the natural hand/eye co-ordination required. Choice of cartridge and chokings do matter but are irrelevant if you can't hit a barn door at ten paces. An 'open' choke and 6 or 7 shot 30gram carts will knock em down easily at up to 30/40yds.(Victory Pigeon)(Gamebore Clear Pigeon)(Rio Basic Game) 28gram of 7's and 1/2 or 3/4 choke will do the job at slightly longer range.(Rio Trap28)(Hull Pigeon Special)(Victory Challangers) If you must take shots at 60 - 70yds use 32gram 5's or 6's with some choke.(Victory Starlight)(Rottweill HV's) When you have developed the 'skill' any modern cartridges will suffice for all your decoying needs!!!!!!
  10. I heard last week, that talks are well on to establish a close season for WOODY ?!!? Following research by Natural England discussions have begun between NATURAL ENGLAND, THE NFU, DEFRA AND THE MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE, I believe the RSPB and the BTO are also involved. The BASC have not been invited and pretend they know nothing about it. Personally I think too much time and effort are wasted on programmes such as this, especially when knife crime and general yob culture are running riot, when it does appear that absolutely sweet fanny adams is being done about bringing in a punishment plan to bring an end to it all. How dare they tell US how where and when we can shoot at the zillions of woodpigeons that plague the countryside and which are now spilling over into the gardens of Joe Public.
  11. About 2miles west of the town - managed to get into double figures!
  12. I was shooting near Bedale today, just wondered how you and Chess faired on Friday?
  13. Sparkymark If you go onto the BASC website you will find an 800 acre farm in Bedfordshire growing rape and beans offering pigeon shooting to basc members for £40.00 per day. Kinda makes the NPPC annual fee look small don't it!!!!!!!
  14. Hi Sparkymark, If you scroll down the topics in NPPC TALK you will find the info you want mate! I have just received an update list following the end of the game season and the nearest to you is about 25-30 mile away in South Staffs ( A5 )
  15. I heard that in oxfordshire there is a gay pigeon guide
  16. Clearly the mother / father did not have parenting skills. How about a licence to have kids ?
  17. Just to thank everyone for all the informative PM's I have received!
  18. I will be moving temp soon to work near Kettering, any active members from that area who might like to share some local knowledge please? PM me if you prefer, ta. Thanks.
  19. Now then jonno are you still having a whinge -- "where's the list" -- that's all you ever do but I did'nt think you were still in the NPPC? All that whingeing ~ you never went out when you were in (I sound like a cricket commentator ) I've been working away for 15 months but home recently, been out on some late drillings yesterday near Selby Oh by the way VSP = very short plants!
  20. Yeah Doc - John said same to me last Friday but I had found rape and adjoining wheat stubble here near Selby and booked out for Sunday. I picked up 19 woodies and about 10 ferals in the afternoon. Cheers, Pete.
  21. Never mind the rock thrushes! Where are the pigeons?!
  22. Marco/hunter Never had any probs myself because I always MAKE SURE I am familar with all the fields in the areas in which I prefer to shoot LONG BEFORE I plan on having a day out with the old shotgun. It's worth checking them all out because usually there are some which I would never ever shoot over, as I think you found to your cost! Today's tally was 18 pigeons and two crows near Howden - with nppc!! Pete.
  23. Does anyone remember the Richardson Wyrley - the first ? rotating device tried out to lure pigeons, which I think predates the Magnet! There was also 'Power Wings' - electric flapper with remote control - all plastic construction and with a slogan "there are no strings to power wings" it sold for £95.00 in 1995. Does anyone still have either of these or know of one somewhere?
